He was a big Carvin fan.
Yeah, but you can't hold that against him.
He was a big Carvin fan.
Overrated...alot of the wankers...I love fast playing, but it has to be in context.
Underrated...I don't know...Iommi kicks ass as a riff-meister...I love good riffs. Not a spectacular lead player, but I don't listen to Sabbath for solos...I like catchy riffs.
He had a crazy collection of instruments and not just guitars. He would hunt for weeks to find a sound and recorded with many many guitars. I saw him live a few times but of all the guys I would like to have met and worked with that I'll never have the chance it would be him.
As I heard it he came to Carvin via Steve Vai who got his break with Zappa in the first place. The list of now days greats that went through the Mothers is quite an Alumni. Every one from Llowell George to Steve Vai. This
Makes interesting reading. Some very well respected names in there...
Didn't you say MetalHead28 was an overrated wanker?
I'm sure it was you.

I'm not about to neg you but I have to stand up for one of those three. BB King has to be up there as an innovator. You have to remember what he did AND when he did it. BB was ahead of his time. A lot like Louis Armstrong people judge him on his latter output and don't recognise the value of his ground breaking style at the time he was doing it. Without Satchmo there would be no Jazz, Without BB there would be no electric blues at least as it is today. Aside from that I have often pondered which band I would play in if I had to do my last ever gig. It's a toss up between BB King's band of the 1980's and any of James Brown's bands. Those guys could move some air.I'll probably get neg rep for his but I reckon some of the most over rated guitarists incude:
Angus Young - he's not bad but he is way over rated
Eric Clapton
BB King
Can you beat 44 years playing and still in "pentatonic scamper" mode? ;^)

I was just doing a little research on King and was surprised to find out that his favorite singer of all-time is Frank Sinatra.![]()
