I have a few questions regarding placement of overhead mic's for drums.... I'm using oktava mk012 mics.
Right now I have them placed over the ride/crash area, and the hi-hat/other crash area...
It seems like the hi-hat and the ride are being picked up very well, maybe a little to well, but the crashes are very quite... This is very confusing to me since they are lower and further away from the mics. Should I rase the mic's up higher above the cymbols and maybe point more towards the crashes?
Alot of my songs are dependent on crashes in heavy parts, and when they aren't recorded right, it takes all the feeling away.
One other thing... they are put into a mixer (i can't do seperate tracking for recording) and i panned them hard left and right like supposed to. For the Highs, Mids, and Lows i left them all at the top middle, except highs is to the right a little more...
I included links to pictures to show you my placement right now:
