Looks like something I can use, Harvey. I'll be getting back with you on them, when I get paid. Thanks for the link!

the moreme's are perfectly fine for tracking. $10/pair, they sound fine as long as you don't expect them to sound like $100 cans, and they isolate very well. however, they aren't the most comfortable things in the world and they do get fatiguing after a while. of course, at $10, you can't complain.

the senn hd280's are about $100/pair, depending on where you get em. they sound leagues better than the moreme's, but then again they SHOULD. they also isolate VERY well (32db of outside noise reduction), and they're great for drum tracking--nice low end which allows me to hear the kick in a mix--something i couldn't do with the moreme's. really, i feel bad comparing the moreme's to them, since they're not even in the same league. if i could afford 5-7 pairs of 280's, i would......but i don't want wookies destroying $100 cans when the moreme's get the job done, are more durable AND cost 1/10 the price. i find the 280s plenty comfortable for long sessions.

the senn hd580s have the same drivers as the hd280s, but they're open instead of closed, have the cable on both sides and have felt/cloth on the ear pieces and headband instead of vinyl. they run about $220-250/pair. i can listen to mine for HOURS on end and they're not fatiguing in the least.

if you're looking for "cheap, durable and gets the job done" and you need several pairs for other folks to use, it's the moreme's, hands down. if you're looking for fantastic sound and you either don't care about what happens to em or you won't be letting other folks use em, check out the hd280s. i've got the hd280s for my use and the rest of the band seems perfectly happy with the moreme's.

hope this helps,
wade

Bingo Wade, you just nailed the reason I went searching for phones that eventually became the MoreMe's. I went through about a thousand dollars worth of phones that got trashed on a regular basis by bands.

I needed a low cost alternative and the MoreMe line was born. As I've said before, and as you stated, they ain't great, but they're good enough to get the job done, and cheap enough to replace if they get stepped on.

At least two people in this threat mentioned MoreMe phones for $10...am I missing something? Harvey's site says $20 for the standard and $30 for the deluxe.

The site is correct. They're $20 for the Studio Phones, and $30 for the Deluxe Studio Phones.

It's probably because the posters meant to say, "They SOUND like $10 phones.". :D

(Actually, for 20 bucks, they sound pretty damn nice. They are what they are; not great, but not bad, either.)

Thanks for clearing that up. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on a sweet deal or something (not that they're not a bargain as is).

Over Christmas, I offered a "Buy 4' get a 5th FREE", which made the price around $16 each, but that offer ended New Year's Day.

I've been eyeing this thread for a few days as I'm looking around for a headphone amp. (I ended up ordering some cans from Harvey's site too.) Based on what I'm reading here I'm leaning towards Behringer or Samson. But I didn't see anyone mention the ART or Rolls units. Are they any good?

Eddieray- I use a Rolls RA62HA- 6 channels, no problems at all in 2 years. I second support for Sennheiser HD280. I did have one pair broken by a yahoo, and GC replaced them w/ no questions asked.-Richie

I seriously considered the Rane and the Behri & I ended up getting the 4700 and it's pretty good for my use. I noticed when I crank the gains on it, its a little noisy, but Ill never need it that high, because I'm preamping out of my 1880 with the Phones out. The mono button is a nice option. I was going to get a used 4600, but for a few $$ more why not get a new one?

Time for some new headphones....I'm looking into some Senns.

Thanks for that. I'll be tracking my drummer soon - first time - and don't need more than two headphones to do it. But I think I'll need to handle at least 4 in the future. I'd like to have separate levels for each. How important is tailoring the mix for each? I'd like to find something for under $100.

I also bought the Senn HD280s a few weeks back, again based on what I read here. I haven't really put them use yet but I think it was money well spent nonetheless.

Eddie- I'll give you this advice- Remember that the drummer is surrounded by his kit, and even with good headphones, he will have trouble hearing the stuff he's playing with over his own drums. The drummer will need his own drums mixed down so he can hear the other stuff.-Richie

Who can compare the AKG 240 with the SennHD280? I think the 240 sounds really nice, but leak too much for tracking. I also need a pair of cans that wont fall off of a drummers head when hes going f-ncrazy (like my akg270s)

Eddie--santa clara or clarita? SCVanguard drumline used to be my fav...dont know if they're still as good.
