hello,
I've got an external A/D converter that I use with the D1624. I plan on getting 16 channels of D/A conversion, hopefully better than the on board converters.

Has anyone tried such an arrangement? I'd imagine that outboard apogees would better the onboard fostex. But enough to make it worthwhile? thanks for any advice....

Whether it's worth it or not is a pretty personal call. They Apogees are certainly good converters, arguably better than the stock Fostex converters, and unquestionably spendy as hell. Your call!

I don't mind the converters in the D1624 one bit: I'm currently in the process of aquiring the AC2496 external converter box to add 8 more AD inputs so that I can track 16 at a time. That will add 8 more just like the 8 I already have for another $650, and seems like a good deal to me. The box came with 16 perfectly adequate DAs, so I don't really feel the need to upgrade them- but your mileage may vary... Let us know what you find!
