(NOTE: This was originally posted in Mixing/Mastering but Roel pointed me in the right direction. So, I apologize for what appears to be a cross-posting).
Would anyone be interested in giving a listen to my first project and making suggestions about the mix, if I need compression, what to listen/look for, what sucks, etc? I am searching this newsgroup and reading recommendations but, for a newbie, this stuff can be a bit daunting
The recording is a friend of mine's daughter playing piano at his house. I must admit, because of low levels, I had to do a bit of normalizing and then some noise reduction but I think it's turning out well.
Technical Details:
* 2 Marshall MXL-603s --> Behringer Ultragain Pro MIC 2200.
* Rode NT-1 --> DMP2.
* All mics --> Delta 1010
* Vegas Audio
The Marshalls were placed to the left and right just inside the open top of the piano. (For some reason I could not get a strong output level from the Behringer. Thus the normalization. Thus the NR).
The Rode was placed behind and just above the back of the piano.
Inside Vegas I panned the Marshall tracks hard left and hard right. The Rode track I doubled and then panned one 20% to the right and the other 20% to the left.
The files should be available here: http://listeningroom.lycos.com/fan/bands/xivproductions/Band.html
Maybe there is someone in the Denver area willing to donate a bit of their time? No... silly people... I'm not a stalker
Regardless, any input is greatly appreciated as I sincerely want to learn this stuff.
Thank you!
