Btw. Can you easily move projects between those apps? If not you loose some flexibility compared to having it all in one app that has all the features. How do you decide which app to use when starting a project?

actually i find it easy moving between them as they use the common wave file format. not a problem for me anyway.
a good example of why i like both is on some projects for say a lead vocal i might find the reverb in magix is to my liking and suits the vocal but on another project the nice echo chorus in powertracks suits the vocal. this is why i dont like using one
package, different pkges have different fx strengths and weaknessses. by the way you can use vst in powertracks using a wrapper. one thing i like in magix i did the other day was i was laying down a lead guitar break and one note was a tiny bit flat so i just used the pitch shift function in magix audio studio.
on the other hand powertracks has a neat function that just lets you rap out and record rough midi drum tracks on your pc keyboard.
on the other hand ive been looking at the multitrackstudio.com package . and i note the developer has done some very nice things with built in effects. and this package has its own nifty tricks. all sorts of nice thinking like a button for a more vintagewarm sound on certain effects.
to me its all about using the best of each tool.
i would much rather buy a few packages like powertracks, N track , magix audio studio and now traktion. than one package.

Everybody has a choice and I choose not to use Powetracks.

buy a midi interface for a sound card joystick port from Radio Shack and you get Powertracks free. There`s no need to spend the $ for it.

I'm no moderator; this is just my opinion.
There's nothing at all wrong with posting a message about a product you like, as long as you're not trying to sell it, and you're not shilling for someone who's selling it. But your original message naturally aroused the suspicions of the folks here.
Also, anyone who posts a message to the effect that "product XXX is just as good as (or better than) product YYY, and costs much less!" is bound to draw fire from fans of product YYY. It also goes against the "you get what you pay for" reality.
I think it might have increased your credibility if you had posted a link to something you've recorded with the product.

This board has a history of spamcontroversy, so it's a touchy subject. But even if not - try reading your first post with the eyes of a non Powertracks-user. I think you'll see why some people reacted like they did. Most of us have probably choosen our tools very carefully.
But please people - don't let another thread go bad. Everyone seems to be in for a fight lately. We're all here to learn - Manning wanted to share what he had found. Assuming he's not a spammer (I don't believe he is) his intentions were good.

several songs on there have been either number one in their genre in the past or been in the top 15 which is nice..
songs like limeyrap, key lime pie,squirrels,lost little boy and many others were done using the software pkge combo.
songs like wrecker,take my love and some others werre done using either 2 inch pro equipment i once owned or a tascam 8
track. each song has its own plusses and minuses. like everyone else i dont claim to be a super audio engineer, but i have a lot of experience BUT still learning.
FYI - ive been offered 3 label deals in the past year , turned down 2 and am in the closing stages of negotiation with the label that gave me the best deal, the third one.

Since you so eloquently put it in an earlier post you should have the right to talk about Powertracks, I have the same right to tell you you're full of it. You may not attack anyone, but you keep shoving you "limited" point of view down everyone's throat.
Just finished playing with the Powertracks demo and my opinion is still the same - its a toy!
Please tell me about these awsome MIDI features because I sure as hell don't see them. All I see is a cheap rip-off of Calkewalk products down to MIDI port selection when you first run the program. After all Cakewalk, or shall I say Twelve Tone Systems, was producing and selling MIDI sequencing software back in the 80's when everyone was still running DOS.
I've been recording for about 15 years now and have been using Cakewalk products since Pro Audio 4. Powertracks doesn't even come close to that!
About the whole software thing - you sound just like all those Linux and OS/2 guys I knew in college who said that stuff would be the end all, be all for desktop computing. Guess what - it ain't gonna happen! I guess you missed the tech news headline a while back where RedHat said they no longer wanted to deal with desktop PC OS market and were going to focus exclusively on enterprise solutions.
Oh and about the Hollywood studios - yes they use Linux, but the software itself for 3D rendering and animation is proprietary stuff that would cost the average consumer thousands of dollars.

brz , i like a good debate. and i have every respect for cake and its products. Sonar IS a good product. Samplitude IS a good product and so are many others. but iif i have a limited viewpoint as you say why do i try and introduce people to all the other alternatives out there ? Why do i like powertracks ?
its simple , a lot of people , particularly newbies spend large amounts of money often on a product only to only use a fraction of its capabilities. ive seen this time and again in project studios of friends. As to ripping off features. as you know , in every industry manufacturers strive to remain competitive.
the same in the car biz, one manufacturer introduces a widget and they all do. imho this competition is good for the consumer.
It means the buyer gets value.
BTW - as you have 15 years of experience, please post an example link of your songs like ive done, if they way outclass
my own efforts in terms of audio engineering and being good songs, i will be the first to bow down before you.

if it only recorded 8 tracks at 22050 16 bit then i'd agree with you.
