one word POWERTRACKS ! from pgmusic.com
why ? , its superb both at midi and digital audio recording.
For 49 bucks you get everything you need to do a very nice
record. even 24 bit 96khz. I dont know why some people have blinders on and only look at the price. IMHO people are really silly
when buying software. I cant fathom also why the home recording bbs has not reviewed this software. IMHO if you cant do a radio charting top teb song with this software then you need to go to engineering and songwriting school.
My recommendation to newbies is to try it before anything.
For such a small amount of money it is outstanding.
I'm continually amazed at its features. This package which is often overlooked by folks new to recording and even seasoned
pro's who should know better is an amazing product.

WHat is this???

If you aren't a marketer for PG - you should be. If you are - this is not the place.

Sorry but your post just reads like a marketing pitch.

lD

Hmmm - Manning1 is from Canada and PG Music is based out of British Columbia in Canada...Can you say SPAM???

Let's see - no ASIO or WDM driver support, no VST support. What's wrong with this picture?

Oh and that User Interface - looks like something out of Windows 3.1. It doesn't even compare to products like Home Studio 2004 which really doesn't cost that much more.

Overall, I'm not impressed.

The interface looks like a first year programming student did it. Really. I think I'd spend the extra $30 for Home Studio 2004.

its a decent piece of software....about one step under N-Track but still very usable......

powertracks - silly comments people

1. i DO NOT work for the company and HAVE NO AFFILIATION.
my wife bought it for me as a present !
2.ive been recording for 25 yrs probably before some of you were born. No - i'm not an expert, but i do know a good deal.
3.i dont understand the comment about "looks". People making these comments have not explored the full functionality.
4. on the asio comment , i find i dont need it. i get no latency problems. on the vst issue thats fair comment, BUT i find the huge number of fx that come with powertracks plus the dirx plug ins is way more than you need.
5.i'm not spamming. i'm amazed at folks shortsightedness.
the midi sequencer alone with the notation features is worth the money.
its your money folks.i'm just trying to alert open minded people new to recording about its excellent value.
lets say you think i'm lying through my teeth, we'll its easy to prove, just talk to users on the powertracks user forum and ask if its worth the money.
before you make comments off the cuff at least try the demo ,
and be open minded. i think a few biased folks will change their mind.

and let me add

why do people always look for some angle or the worst in people.
????? i have no axe to grind. Why do i get attacked with silly comments for trying to post information ? isnt this what this forum is for ? if you check my posts ive also said magix audio studio, traktion and N track are wonderfull value for money as well. plus multitrackstudio.com. I despair of some people sometimes...no wonder people are leery of helping each other these days. jeesh!!!!!!

That's fine to point out a decent product but when nobody asked it looks like spam. Then when you insinuate that anyone who spends more is stupid or wasteful you put people on the defensive.

If I said anyone who drives a car that costs more than a Yugo is just throwing their money away I'd probably get some smartass comments back too.

texas

cant argue with the yugo texas. even i'm not that cheap.
i guess its the same deal as why do some people spend 70k on a new truck when i just saw a deal for a mint showroom condition used truck for 5k.
i'm just pointing out value for money. powertracks is a very deep product imho with a lot of features that you dont realise on a cursory look.

Nobody attacked you and called you an asshole or something.....don't be so damn sensitive. Geez.

I despair of people that are so damn touchy everything offends them.

magix url

for magix audio studio just goto magix.de and download the demo. the stores near me sell it for 49 bucks. version 7.
but i hear a new version is coming i thought i saw on the net.
if you get powertracks as well as magix v7 you will have so many options and fx for about 100 bucks total for both pkges, it will make your head spin. i use the fx in powertracks for certain things and the ones in magix for others.
also there is the free audacity , which has some fx built in.
but on my system i find i get a bit of latency with it. but you cant beat free. if you goto hitsquad, com there are tons of demos under multitrack recording.

OR YOU CAN GO FOR WHATS BEHIND DOOR #3!!!

"yes thats right folks you can support your local canadian college student by buying powertracks! now if you answer this question correctly...not only will you get powertracks but you'll also get free drugs! and if that doesnt wet your whistle then we'll throw in a gold-plated-silver-handled-do-nothing for absolutely FREE!" now the question is....do you really want to spend 50 bucks on that or would you rather go out and have a few beers and pick up some new guitar strings?

I don't get it. Why do you want to mess with two entry-apps basically doing the same thing? Isn't it smarter getting a better integrated one having all those features (and probably more)? Besides the obvious benefits you'll have one less app to learn, and believe me, learning the tool well does a lot of difference.

I own Band-in-a-box but I've never tried Powertracks - For different reasons I did compare a few cheap audio-packages a year ago or so. Back then it didn't support 24/96 (probably does now) and I couldn't find an answer if it supported multiple inputs and DXi (the lack of vst(i)-support isn't a big deal if it supports DXi but it does add to the cost). That's just examples of stuff that depending on how you work might be deal breakers, or add to the cost. If I did the same comparision today I'm sure I would come up with a similar list, but maybe other things.

My view of PG Music is that they have good "bang for the bucks"-products - they throw a lot of features in for the price but they don't bother too much with doing it 100% or integrating it well.. This even reflects on their website. In a sense I think PG Music has the attitude of Creative - but are less concerned with appearence.

All this said - Ive no doubt any newbie would be well of with Power tracks, nTrack, Magix, Cubasis or Home studio etc and even many pros could probably live with it - as with so many things you pay a lot for the last 10%.

distortedrumble

more inanity. distortedrumble ,
more silliness. about the cdn college student, well once i was told
that apparently pg employs americans !
so actually your probably helping USA colege students.
who knows. sounds to me like some of these flames might be from pg competitors.
the pkge now does 2496 and multiple inputs. all i know is i like the flexibilty of using both. i like some features in magix better and i like some in powertracks better. a neat feature (one of many) in powertracks is doing quick drum tracks with styles.
whereas magix i like the graphical mixer.

Fair enough, my view is that I don't want to waste time on learning unneeded apps, or on not using apps well. My studiotime is precious...
