One Guitar To Two Output?

I want to connect my guitar to two channel of my soundcard (konnekt 6) as left and right channel at sametime. How can I do this? ABY switches, DI Box or?

I want to use L and R outputs at sametime. For cheap solution, I find Behringer AB100. But I am not sure that Ab100 provide to clone one channel to two channel at same time. (I think it can be used as only A or B channel. (not together at sametime)


My purpose is like this :

..............................L----->Sansamp Gt2--------->Konnekt 6 Left Channel
Guitar -->ABY Box -->I
..............................R----->Sansamp Gt2--------->Konnekt 6 Right Channel

Will you suggest any solution?

A simple Y-cord with 1/4" TS plugs on all three ends should work.
 
Don't bother. There's no point recording the same thing on two tracks.

...or a stereo speader/imaging plugin if you're looking for that "big, wide" sound. But yeah, a guitar is a mono source (unless you have stereo effects) so there is no point in recording in stereo. Stereo will just use up more disk space. Remember you can always duplicate the mono track if you want to do stereo panning while you're mixing.
 
odary, It might be better if you posted exactly WHAT you are trying to accomplish.

There may be a better way or there may be a good reason NOT to do it...
 
Thanks for replies. Actually my main purpose is not stereo recording. I just want to try different posibilities. (using different efect chains at sametime etc.)

But my other purpose :

I am already using Guitar Rig 4 for recording stuffs. (I connect my guitar to left channel of my soundcard. And no problem at recording). But I have lot of real effect pedals. I want use my pedals for playing guitar practice etc. I dont use any guitar amp in my home. So I want to use connect my real pedal chains to my soundcard. Actually I want to use my soundcard as a guitar amp via my sansamp gt2. So I didnt want to use any daw, vst hosts for this job. In this case I need two output.

PS : You are right. I know I can buy little practice guitar amp, power amp, mixer, etc. :D But I have great studio monitors and I want to use them together with my pedals.

Then use a simple Y-cable. An A/B box is overkill.
 
Thanks for great advices. Is there any signal lost (or weakness) with Y cable? Otherwise I will immediately get a Y cable.
 
The LARGE majority of recording units will easily allow you to bounce one track to another. Just record to track A, then duplicate that to track B. Done. No trips to Rat Shack necessary.:D

Also, no signal degradation, which can happen when you split one signal to two destinations.

You're working with a weak signal (guitar pickup) to begin with, but you're also running it into pedals that (if I remember the GT2 correctly) add gain. I don't see that it would do any noticeable harm.

Why would you duplicate the mono track for "stereo panning"? Panning is stereo, and you can pan a mono track anywhere in the stereo field. There's usually few/no reasons for duplicating a mono track when it comes to the stereo spread.

Sorry, I didn't mean panning. I guess I meant if you wanted individual control over each channel in case you wanted to only assign an insert to the left or right channel, in case you wanted to automate one channel apart from the other, etc. It can be useful in some situations.
 
I like to play in stereo live. I have 2 outputs on the tuner. Each out runs to an effects chain and into an amp. 2 completely different sounds coming from 1 instrument. There are downsides to this of course. Like trying to go from gain to clean quickly, but I think for recording it will have some cool possibilities. A little different than using a simulator,,& louder

You might want to duplicate a mono track for a doubling effect, pan them hard left and right and then introduce some delay to one of them. About 4ms should do the trick, remember to turn down the dry pot in the delay plugin or turn the mix right up depending on how it works. Big wall of guitar effect, its a nice thing to introduce for more lively parts of a one man and his guitar session to lift a chorus or middle 8.

That's a really great trick that I was taught when I was just starting recording. I was watching somebody mix a slow song with a really chorusy rhythm guitar and it sounded amazing after he applied the effect. I've used that trick a lot since then :)
