wow...i didnt hear the first version...but that guitar sound is awesome....i think this mix is very good...i like hte "yea yea yea"..let it be......come together...very cool.!!!....great vocals a little too much vibrato for my taste but hey so what right??..who am i??..lol...are those real drums?...man you are gettin up there in vocal range..!!.good job...the lead guitar ..great....."i tried to talk to jesus.."..that is a great line....

The intro guitar was much clearer,distinct and up front,I'm a/b ing as I'm typing this because I still have the old version.
The snare in my ears is still up front but blends better than the first version.
Cool,an improvement on an already great song.:cool:
 
I liked it. but, for some unfortunate reason that I can't explain, this isn't a song I would picture hearing on the radio...but wish I would...because ...

the lead solo is a little hacked sounding.

I noticed some timing issues and the vocal is little burried ... so who told you to "stand by"? :D ...

Groovy tune. I got into the lycrics which is something I rarely do. I really dug the beatle-esque backing vocals. There were some timing issues that were pretty awkard. That guitar solo was a bit out of place tonal wise. Maybe introduce that tone in a few places before hand.
 
I just found this for the first time.
Definitely sounds like something that Lennon might be doing if he were still here. Very cool piece of writing. I really like the acoustic (it's a real acoustic right?), and the backup vox are cool :cool:
I noticed some timing issues too, but couldn't tell if it was my connection or not (came through glitchy). I like the spoken word in the radio like voice too (Lennon?), nice touch. Very good job Chuck, keep it up! :D

i like it.......i think the lead vocals could even get a tad more volume....the bass gets a tad out of hand at a couple points, just a touch more compression there could level it out better
 
First off, I thought that "Yeah yeah yeah yeah" thing was very cool. I hope there are enough people around that get the reference. Real neat sound on the snare, but maybe it's a bit too up front in the mix. Real good tone on the bass.

Some real good lyrics. The Lennon clip was good.

Yoko will probably get around to suing everybody eventually.

There are some (very) small synching issues with the vocals as the first chorus kicks in, starting at 1:17.
 
Chuckster - Great. Immense improvement over the original mix. Now I can hear things - like the acoustic (which sounds great, btw) and the vocals, and everything else!

Of course the downside of that is that you can also hear some of the timing issues already referred to. :)

I really can't add much to what has already been offered. The drums sit much better in the mix now (as AR pointed out), and the bass needs some taming. It is particularly noticeable where it first comes in around 0:10 - 0:11. I think the right eq, or some compression will do the job for you.

Anyway, great job. You're on the right path with this one.

Oh, one last thing, I'm having trouble making out the Lennon stuff at the end. Not sure if this is the result of the source material, or whether it needs some eq., but it's a bit muddy and I'm having difficulty in making out the words.

I set up 7 mics, but only used 6. The hihat mic is muted because there's not enough hat in the song.
The kick mic is a Shure Beta-52 placed about 2" from the beater head on the floor tom side - inside the drum - no front head. I have since added a front head with a 4" hole at 9 o'clock. Big improvement.
The snare is an SM-57. This snare sucks, so we had the drummer do rim shots the whole song.
There's one mic on the 2 rack toms and it's a Peavey SM-58 clone (HD-40 - I gotta get more of these) and it's between the toms, not over the heads.
The Floor tom mic is a Sennheiser 421. It's an expensive dynamic and was given to me. I haven't spent $300 on a mic yet and that's what these go for.
The overheads are Behringer ECM-8000's ($35 apiece) spaced about 5' apart and about 18" off the cymbals - pointed straight down.
The mics are routed to my 2 Mackie 1202's, out the inserts to a Delta 1010, into Sonar. I eq'd the snare and kick in Sonar quite a bit. The rest of the kit has no processing except a reverb plug-in on the aux buss for the toms. I also have a reverb plug on the snare.
I welcome any suggestions on the drum mix/micing/eq's/effects, etc. I might have missed. This is still new to me, but has been a priority for months now.

Good mix. The drums seem to distort a bit occasionally. The acoustic guitars are good. You can't go wrong with acoustic guitars in my book so no worries there :D I like the singing too. The cymbals have that little wabbly kinda mp3-sound. I wonder if it's the mp3 encoding or if it was there to begin with. The drums aren't on beat everywhere, but it doesn't bother me too much. The song is uplifting and kinda looks back and I like that.

Beatles & Jesus, huh? :D
