Onboard sound; disable or not?

I'm building my self a recording computer based on a GA-7N400PRO2 Mobo ...

Like most non-server mobo's it has onboard sound; I'll be sticking an Audiophile 2496 in it for my recording interface, but wonder if I should disable (in the BIOS) the onboard stuff, or if leaving it is not a problem.

Go ahead and disable it. While they might not conflict, there's always that chance. On my notebook, I have to have both on because there are times I want to play music when I'm travelling and don't have my Motu 828 along . I've noticed that all of my apps, including Sonar 4 will randomly change which device they are using without ever asking me. I had a BIG problem that made me think some tracks were bad when my system was trying to record from the Motu but use the onboard SoundMAX card as the timing master. Bad stuff...

Second vote for disable!

Aside from the conflict issue, I always figure even my worst sound card will sound much better than anything build into a mainboard; and after all, it''s the sound that we care about the most!

I've got an nForce2 mobo, and I've got it and my Audiophile both running. I use the nForce for games and shit, and I just tell Vegas to use the Audiophile.
