Omni Studio is making me CRAZY

The Rundown:

I had an SB Live card already installed on my computer. I bought and installed an Omni studio. I loaded up the drivers for the omni, the wdm drivers for win2k, which i am using. Went in to Cakewalk, looked at my available sound sources. I had the SB live left, right, stereo, like i always had. I also had delta 66 left, right, stereo.

I said to myself "There should be more inputs!"

I wanted to see things like PCM 1/2 Delta-66, PCM In 3/4 Delta-66, s/pdif in delta-66, etc.

So, I checked and doubled checked that the drivers had been installed correctly according to the user manual. Everything was fine there.

I decided to uninstall the SBLive drivers and the delta drivers, and then only reinstall the delta drivers. So, the uninstall of the SBLive drivers goes fine. Then I go to uninstall the delta drivers. As soon as I click to uninstall it, the computer instantly reboots...and when it boots up again THE DRIVERS ARE STILL THERE. So I do it again and same thing. I even downloaded m-audios uninstall program, and the same thing. I can not uninstall the delta drivers!

Now when I go into cakewalk I can not select ANY audio input devices, there are only the midi tracks. Playback is fine through the omni, going out of the monitor outs to an amp.

This thing is starting to play with my head in bad ways, I think I am starting to lose it here. Please help me.

My computer:

30 gig 7200 rpm hd
256 megs sdram pc133
windows 2000 sp2
asus a7v socket a mobo

ok now...

I had to boot in to safe mode to get rid of those delta drivers, but I did it. Then I reinstalled what seem to be the latest drivers from midiman.com (5.12.1.25). Now I can see all my inputs like I should. But to no avail...

I have a mic and a guitar plugged into input 1 and 2 respectively. When I turn up the gain, the signal light lights up, so I know the signal is getting into the omni. The problem is, the signal is somehow not getting to my computer. In the monitor mixer, when I tap the mic or strum the git I should see some activity on the H/W in 1/2 and H/W in 3/4 meters, but I have nothing. All advice is welcomed.

Ok, now your blaster is out of the picture, right?
When you re-loaded the Delta drivers, did you go back into
multi-media and set it up as the recording/playback device?

I'm sure you know to do that, but it's easy to miss the silly stuff when you get spazed out dealing with the bigger issues.

In what ever software you're using have you assigned the Delta as the device there too?
 
Yes, the blaster is out of the picture. For window's recording playback, I set playback to delta 66-1/2 and recording to delta 66-monitor/mixer. According to midiman.com's tutorial, I should see meter activity in the monitor mixer at this point, but nothing is happening.

i to have had the same set up and have had to install the delta drivers several times, i don't know if you did this stuff but here goes-
use the delta driver uninstaller found on their website with the drivers,
if you are showing a signal in the delta mixer board but not hearing anything i think you had best check that-
usually you use the moniter out settings from the hardware page of the mixer
second have you tabbed across the bottom of the mixer to reveal all the in's and outs, the little bar you move that shows all the ins and outs
you do not see all of these unless you do.
also you have to unmute and stereo lock and then push the faders up
you may also have to check your software since this set up has multiple inputs
i know the sblive site has wdm drivers
if all else fails you may have to uninstall the drivers for the delta and change you're pci slot so that windows can change the irq's
i just remembered i did all this stuff and that's how i finally got it all humming-
you should be able to use the blaster in this set-up,
delta usually has exellent support if your problem persists
and i'm sure they could help
 
thanks, but for some reason the signal is not getting to the computer. I see no level reading on the mixer/monitors meters, and have not been able to successfully record anything. i'm going to call tech support monday but was hoping i could get this sorted out this weekend.
 
The delta cards only support 2in/2out in win2k with most software.

Sucks eh?
 
hmmm....

Are you sure about that??? Maybe with some of the older drivers, but even though I haven't got it totally up and running yet I'm fairly sure you can use all the ins/outs in win2k.
 
Actually after posting that I checked their site and they have two drivers listed for win2k. I was using the old one. They have a new driver that looks like it might do 4 in 4 out for win 2k and xp.

I don't have my delta 44 here, its in my friends studio along with the rest of my gear. Once I get a win2k machine up and running here again I might go take it back for a day or two, to try the new drivers.

In short make sure you have the win2k/xp driver not the other win2k driver.

I had the very same problem you're having when I got my Omni Studio. It turned out the 'Aux in 1 to Line ins 1,2' and 'Aux in 2 to Line ins 3,4' buttons were pressed on the back of the Omni box. I guess it ships that way. M-audio should really do something about that. Press those buttons again and you should be ready to roll.

They do... its called the manuals... reading them really helps to understand the functions of the Delta/Omni... in fact many of the questions that have been posted on this forum regarding the Omni I/O could have been self-answered if the posters had just taken an extra 10-20 minutes to read their manuals...

I used to have all kinds of questions regarding the functions of my Omni I/O... then I read the manuals... here's the twist: my questions were answered and I now understood the functions, signal flow, routing, etc. of the Omni... turns out the system is actually very simple to comprehend and understand...

Whoopysnorp, this wasn't aimed directly at you... its just that I see posts on different forums quite a bit with people screaming that they don't understand how to operate the Omni/Delta66 and it is too confusing... and then when you tell them to read and follow along with the manuals to understand the Omni, if they do it, then they usually reply back, "Oh wow... thanks, now I understand." That step of having to tell people that the manual explains the functions really should not have to be said...

anyways Delta66/Omni I/O is a kick ass system...

Actually I have spent quite a bit of time immersed in the manuals the last few days, but it has taken some time for everything to sink in to my ever-so-thick skull. Much thanks to whoopy for pointing out the problem. And jdechant, your absolutely right....but it's easier to come cryin' to the boards first. :)

Now I'm off to play with my working Omni....

Point taken, jdechant, but it seems like it'd make more sense for M-Audio to ship the Omni box with those buttons on the back set the way most people will need them to start off.
