I usually unplug and pack away my Oktava mk02's after each session, but I was wondering if it's harmful to just leave them out ....it seems like these mics are kind of frail and I think I'm doing more damage by plugging/unplugging them every night....

plus, the threading seems kind of fragile and it seems like only a matter of time before that's going to go from screwing and unscrewing the windscreen and -10db pad....

I also had the same question about my Audio Technica pro 25.....

can anyone advise?

Yo Cap'n. That isn't a wind screen, that's the mic capsule, the heart and soul of those little puppies. They're not that fragile, but the threads are very fine, and you need to handle them gently. I would always advocate putting mics away, but if you want to leave them up, put a ziplock bag over them to protect them from dust, and put a silica gel pack in with the mic to keep the humidity down. Condensation on the diaphragm can make your mics sound very bad, and forces you to have to dry them out. If you live in Arizona or some such, forget the gel pack.-Richie

thanks for the info.....

I believe I've read somwhere that people have used those drawstring type cloth or velvet type small pouches that used to hold fancy liquor bottles.....and basically just place them over the mics when not in use.....

yay or nay???

That'll work as well.

Some mics such as the Audio-Technica AT4040 and the AEA R84 comes with some cool pouches to put on them while they stay on the stand.
