No issue at all, Kenny. We've both been around here for a while, and I've learned enough from your posts to take your opinions seriously. Your explanation is quite interesting, though, because if I were to state the two reasons the Neumanns get put up more often than the Oktavas, it would be accuracy and *high end* detail, in which areas, the Neumanns beat my Oktavas. I expect another reason is that mine aren't modded, and it is important to remember that when we are talking to a newbie about mics, we shouild be talking about what they *are*, not what they *could be* made into. It's OK to state how good the mics are, but it's important to point out that they have been upgraded. Many mics can be improved by modifications, and the Oktavas are favorite targets for modders. I'll admit it's not too bad, though at $80 each, but that is 160% of what I paid for them. So the cheap mic becomes a low-mid-priced mic, a slightly different ball park. If you paid $500 for a pair, it looks smaller as an investment in the mic.
I have to admit I'm intrigued, though. Not being a tech, or even very good with a soldering iron, I think I'd have to part with the $160, but I'm considering having my Oktavas modded. The only problem is- one of the roles they fulfill is to be expendable small diaphragm mics for remote recording where I don't want to put the Neumanns at risk. If I invest enough money in the Oktavas, they become less expendable. But what the hell? I may do it anyway.-Richie
