hmmmm

well you guys have given me something to think about and i thank you. a couple things i have to deal with is this.... i will need a modem for the work that the computer will do. this computer will handle audio and also edit pictures handle graphics for my website. it will handle the news letter and MP3 colabs as well as some basic email work so online is a big deal with it. pro tools may or may not be the way i go. i do not need loads of effects other than some good delay and reverb(i might get away with garage bands for a long time) i need for the most part a way to get ideas and works out to people. right now full compass has a deal i am going to check up on with an imac G5 17" and an Mbox for $2000.00
this may or may not be the way i turn with mac i may run mackie tracktion or something else alltogether. i am researching and trying to learn as much as i can right now i have the work coming up with my dad working on houses, that will pay for it if this is the way i want to go. the thing is with this thread i am just trying to find out why people either do not like mac or do not like windows i have read very few reasons for not liking either one till now i would like to thank the guys who have said one way or the other about them.
now as for windows i have had a computer that was well setup and worked with very close every day i had all the audio from a weekend live set of about five sets of music that i had to edit down and master out for some people one day my computer came up and said windows was not working and it had an error! well we booted it up with a live copy of linux and networked the computer with one my friend had and we saved many of my files but it killed a large chunk of time and also i lost some very good audio because it was not letting us transfer it over  lucky that my best stuff was backed up on disk. but still microsoft just has holes in the program. another thing i have liked about mac is it has learning tools out there that will teach me things to do with my education (i am homeschooled) i am glad to have something like this BBS where people will tell me things like this if it was not for them i would never learn anything other than the hard way thank you guys :)

If you REALLY want a MAC, as bad as you think, I am selling my G4 rig with Mbox and the factory Effects bundle. Just pm me.

No way am I even going to try to read that last post.

Theres no good thing or bad things about either Windows or Mac. Its ALL based purely on opinion of the way each OS works. Seems to me like you want a mac, so my advice? Get a mac.

I've given up trying to read guitar junkie's posts. I just end up going cross-eyed!!

The Windows / instability argument just doesn't hold up if you're careful with your drivers and additional software.

I had a Win 98SE machine that I used for recording for four years on the same install, never had a single crash, never had a single problem. Since migrating my main PC to XP Pro I've had problems because I'm using one PC for everything - when I put a fresh install on a spare hard drive I went back to having no problems.

I suspect I'll never be a mac user, but mostly simply because I don't want to learn another new OS!
