Pleads the 5th...
I'm in the process of moving an office (actually a couple). The new office space will require a better computer than what's presently there. So I need to biuld a new computer. Now here's where it gets fun. Like the saying goes, Shit rolls downhill... So I'm going to be giving up my current system to the new office space (sob, sob...:( ), and building a new one for my studio:D . I use Cakewalk Pro Audio (soon to be upgraded to Sonar), and have a Delta 66 Soundcard. I'm leaning toward a dual processor unit (RAID?, even though this is new territory for me) and Windows XP (to support both dual processors, and dual monitors). Am I going in the right direction with this? I'm going to be putting this thing together the next time I go to a computer show, and I'm looking to put in $1,000 - $2,000 into the tower (I already have monitors, CD drives/burners coming out the Wazoo). So C'Mon Mr. Sandman... ...Build me a dream! Give me your thoughts on this as I could really use some advise on this one!!! Thanx, Tom.

Dual AMD Athlon MP, 2000+ with Alpha PAL 8045 x 2 modded with Delta fans@6000 RPM

GeForce 2 MX Dual-head
2 x 19" Mitsubishi monitors
Enermax 550 watt PSU
Plexwriter 24 x 10 x 40 x
DVD-ROM drive
Lian Li full tower, 6 case fans

Soundproof castle in English countryside to record in ;)

Wow, thats a lot of fans (9!). I hope they're quiet, or you'd probably want to add an isolation box to that list.

Sangram stole my dream computer...

I would add 5 120 gig 7200RPM Western Digitals...

in an atx mini server tower...

and maybe a geforce 3 ti500 dual head if there is such thing lol...

and dual viewsonic 23" lcds...

There are 10,000 and 15,000 RPM SCSI drives out now. Go for gold baby! You can get these in a RAID configuration.

gosh me and my pathetic 5400 rpm fujitsu.

I'd drop the monitors altogether and get dual projectors.

why stare at a screen when when you can have the picture on your wall? It would certainly save space on the o'l desk now wouldn't it?

5 x 120 gig drives eh? Where are you going to find a 500 watt power supply to feed this baby? :D

Why do people want their case so quiet? What's the point? My guitar hum on the mic is louder than my computer. There's always noise reduction or noise gate.

There's a 550W (continous) PSU in the computer (HP netserver LH3) I got from my office's junk collection.
And SCSI RAID.
And dual PIII ("only" 600MHz though).
And 1GB RAM.
And it runs W2k.
Looks like my new DAW just arrived:D

It's actually not junk at all. We used it for live operation a month ago. They just didn't need it and it's too bulky (100lbs) to keep. Only problem is that it sounds like a jet engine.

Happy Days

/O
