Oh... My... God... M-Audio Solaris

I have 2 clips located here
http://www.members.aol.com/stephaniem562/
The first one is an acoustic guitar recorded w/ the Solaris and the drums using 2 Solaris as overheads and a 421 in the kick.
The second clip is the same section but with more of the instruments added in. I still kept the drums a bit hot so you can hear how clean the Solaris mics sound.
Also keep in mind I took these clips through the monitor section of the board so no EQ, effects, or nothing.
Tonight I'm going to do a full drum track and I can post that using the Solaris as overheads and mixed in with the other drum mics.

Sounds very good to me. What preamp are you using? Also, are you using an XY mic configuration or something like the recorderman setup? Cheers

The 2 Solaris overheads and the 421 in the kick went through 2 DMP3's. One overhead was placed to the left of the kit facing down toward the Hi hat/smare. The other was placed over the ride cymbal facing in toward the set. The mics were fairly close overhead. Mabye 2 to 3 stick lenghts above the snare.
The acoustic was also miked with a solaris running through a Focusrite track master by passing the compressor and EQ.

Hands up, who swapped the Microphone forum for the Cave again?

holy wow. these mics sound incredible. a pair for under five bills? Damn. I like a lot!

Chessrock - :D Boy, that brings back some memories...

Mostly bad ones about weird music videos, but memories still.

Yes, but you don't get the shock mount from them (I checked) MF matched the price because I bought two of them.

BTW the MKL2003 has the 3 micron diaphram too.

I have a pair of 2003s and must admit that despite the other flaws of them they pick up very tinly levels of detail remarkably well, making you seem closer to the sound than you are. I think that it is because having a head half as thick as most condensers their mass is half, making the head more lively to tiny sounds. I just recorded a high school choir. Just two mics in an XY configuration, couldn't have been closer than 12 feet to any of them but I was picking up tiny details like they were close-miced.

neat

i've always been happy with Maudio stuff...
my soundcard rocks, know other dudes that have Maudio cards, they all rock.... i was very interested in that luna....
but i first wanna start with the more....industrial standards...
like a few sm57's for drums, akg 414 for vocals...

but this thread kicks ass...cause i heard lots of people panic when they had to record a LITTLE orchestra...

thanx for all the typing, very interesting !
