That is amazing. It sounds like the kit is 10ft away. That must be a pretty sweet room.

Actually, it's pretty unfriendly for recording generally - That's one of the reasons that I'm diggin' these things...

And it's also a pretty good sounding kit...

[ANOTHER FREAKIN' EDIT]

One thing I should mention is those shock mounts - These mics are pony-clamped to a tail-down pipe from the grid - There is what I would consider an unacceptable amount of mechanical noise transferred to amost every mic I've ever put up there. Although there's some mechanical noise on this (trust me - it's in the quiet parts), it isn't nearly as nasty as normal. Although the mounts seem overly-stiff, they're evidently quite well-matched to the weight of the mics.

SWEET!

I'm doing a fair amount of musical theater sound. These may work well in that situation.

I do quite a bit myself - Planning on using them frequently. They are a bit hard to hide, though... Where I have them now is completely out of sight, but in a not-so-great spot...

Gonna have to experiment a bit...

John, did you try the Fairchild on that mix? There is one of the presets that reduces the mids and still lets the highs come through. Just a suggestion.

Oh and by the way, you are a complete engineering inconsiderate; tempting me to go out and get one of these right away.

Only ONE?

The "test" version is bare - No FX, Comp, EQ...

The "slightly sweetened "version... I "think" I had a FC on one of the splits... I didn't save it, but I'm pretty sure I had one on in there somewhere... Not on the master buss, though...

I am such an addict!!!
I was so damn impressed I just bought a pair from MF.
BTW I got a great price for buying a pair
Mics, shock mounts, and cases
shipping included

$479

Did I say I'm becomming such an addict.....

Zbert,

Let us know if they are harsh on the top end, when used up close for vox.

Gave 'em a quick try here on vocals - Again, same setup and only phones, but it sounded pretty schveet... "Airy," yes. Harsh, no.

Planning on doing a full-scale shootout soon at Farview...

Holy cow. I don't know what to say. That, to me sounds great. I wonder what other sources they would be great on?

Damn! That sounds great! I'm amazed that you can even pick out the hats in there. They didn't get lost even on a large room with ensemble instruments from 30 feet.

yep, i like the sound of that recording.

but i didnt like that guy's swing. loosen up man!

That's whay you get when symphonic orchestras do pop numbers...

It's sorta like white rappers... :D

the drummer has that, "i read about swing in a book but never actually heard it" feel.

not that i can swing...

man it takes some serious work to sound right. i think that rap analogy is right. lots of people tend to think, oh i'll try that rap thing, and they get it wrong.

lots of the kids where i live seem to rap every second of the day. walking down the street, riding the bus, shopping for groceries... that is the sort of work it takes to pull it off.

and based on my totally unscientific survey i havent seen altogether too many white kids putting in the effort.

Massive,

Any chance you could post a clip, of the mic on a short acoutic/ vocal piece?

Working on doing a shootout soon... Gotta do another orchestra next week. Hopefully after that I can come up with some time...

Ditto. This has got to be one of the worst renditions of Sing! Sing! Sing! that I have ever heard from a professional group.

They seem too worried about the notes, and not at all concerned about the feel. Swing music is one of those things that when technically perfect sounds wrong. It's all about playing it not quite right, in exactly the right way.

The recording sounds great!
