oh man..another question protools

so, Im trying to load the ignition pack finally for my protool mbox2.Holly shit! what a pain in the ass.It say to first start with Alberton live.You have to load it, then open it.Thats ok, but it say to enter my live lite 6 digidesign enhanced edition serial number? where the hell is it. I have nothing in the mbox box. Help!
 
ok, i found the number,what a pain but after all plugins are loaded when I start up protools i get a message saying "The application protools le 7.3.1 quit unexpectedly, mac os x and other applications not effected.

you cannot run 7.3.1 on osx 10.5

you should go on the digi sight and look at the requirements for running that system.
 
well,i've been running it until i installed the ignition pack plugins
 
i dont even bother installing the ignition pack any more. more trouble than what the plugins are worth. all my plugins are ilok now...
 
when it loads the blue bar stops at digirewire.dpm then the error message comes up.I have an ilok also, it came with the mbox 2. It doesnt need to be in while loading protools I would not think, just when using plugins...right?
 
I cant speak of the quality of the ignition pack 2 plugins.....'cause I cant open protools now because of them!!!! But, how can I get rid of the plugins in mac g5. The whole mac os is just so different to me than xp that Im used to.

Library -> Application Support -> Digi -> Plug-Ins




As mentioned, you should no be running 7.3.1 on OSx10.5 - more than anything that's probably where the issue is coming from. There is a reason digi has a compatibility page! follow it...
 
i upgraded to 7.4 and problem is still there. And why have I been able to run it on 7.3. un til plugins were installed?
 
I went there before getting the g5,looks to me like even 7.3 would work,from digidesigns support page for compitability

Sometimes the compatibility issues aren't always obvious. Having said that, I've been running 7.4 on 10.4.11 for ages and not having any issues.

When you're looking at there is whether 7.3 will run on a G5 - yes it will. Basically you were looking at the wrong section! Check this page:

Well, as I said I upgraded tp 7.4 and the same problem still exists. Only happened as I said when I installed plugins( ignition 2 pack) ran fine before that on 7.3.1. without ignition pack 2 plugins.
 
Rewire is known to crash 7.3 on Leopard. Remove it from the folder and you should be fine.
 
thanks tnjazz.noe i have upgraded to 7.4 presently and still same issue. unless the plugins need to be removed then reinstalled after 7.4 upgrade?
 
The first release of 7.4 was unstable. The lasted version of 7.4 is CS7. That is 7.4 cs7. There has been some talk that 7.4 cs5 was more stable. I have no knowledge as to which is a stouter revision but in this case you MUST update to at least 7.4 cs5.

If the culprit (cause of your current crashes) is something in the Ignition Pack then the plug-ins need to be UPDATED and NOT re-installed. The updated install code will decide if it's a total re-install or an update and is a much safer way to handle moving forward.

It's important to note here that installation of PT might not always follow this methodology. Sometimes a PT release must be first un-installed and the new version then installed.

The other big picture problem here is what happened to the Waves plug-ins that were dragged into your plug-in folders??

Obviously the boot up routine of Pro Tools includes a scan of the plug-ins folder. It's a fairly sensitive component of a working PT' rig. If those Waves plug-ins are still being scanned by PT it could also have a major impact here

I know historically you've had a tough time believing me but if you do nothing else I suggest these are Titanically important issues to address :)

Ok cool.....I'm just trying to help :) Follow through with my earlier suggestions. The proper version of PT is of utmost importance.

THEN: Create a folder within your plug-in unused folder. Drag all the Ignition Pack plug ins into this new folder. Re-boot Pro Tools. By process of elimination if Pro Tools boots you'll know it's one of the Ignition Pack plugs. One by one re-enter (from the newly created folder) the Ignition Pack plugs. Pro Tools should continue to boot until it see's the bad plug in.


Go update that plug in.
 
Ah ok, I got you. I hope this is not a silly question but ,should i uninstall all the ignition plugins then place them in the stated folder or is it ok for me to just drag them there without uninstalling/reinstalling to stated folder?
 
No in this case the least damage would be done by "dragging" the plug-ins into the "un-used" folder. That's why it's there. A shelter for possibly problematic plug-ins.
 
Well, I dumped off all the plugins and protools and reinstalled protools that came with my mbox version 7.3 I believe then installed the updater disc to 7.3.1 and all works well.I installed just a few of the ignition pack 2 plugins, one at a time per someones wise suggestion...a.very good idea. I tried to upgrade to version 7.4 but when I go to open protools it asks for a reg # from the "upgrade disc". So, seeing I did it online I dont have that so I must assume I cant upgrade.I read there is a timeline to upgrade from 7.3 to 7.4 for free and the same with a new purchase of 7.4 to version 8.I missed the window...oh well. Now I am running Leopard with 7.3.1 and it is working fine. Someone mentioned that it is not compatable(7.3) with Leopard. Maybe it will get me sometime but ok for now. I really bought an mbox because it is so small and if I need to go to someones home to overdub something like vocals or whatever it easier than taking my mackie 1640 firewire mixer. So, it it serves that purpose that will be fine. What plugins to you guys recommend for protools? I really like thew waves but I love my UAD cards. Free plugins are good but I spring out with some $$$$ if need be. Im interested in compressors, eq.s and good reverbs.
