To be honest the free eq, compression, Reverb in protools is called Dverb. All of those that are standard in protools really does the job just fine. At the studio I work for the owner spent money on third party plugins of those listed, And we never even use them because stick with the ones protools come with and your good, spend money on something useful. A lot of people these days are using the autotune, lol.

RD423, the mbox has like 1 verb. Yeah d-verb and 1, 4 and 7 band eq's I think and thats it. Very limiting compared to what I'm used to. Honestly, I can't imagine any pro studio using only plugins stock with an mbox. The bombfactory bf76 compressor is weak, at least for me.I use all the time the UAD cards in my pc sonar setup.. The La2a, 1081 eq, pultec eq. 1176ln,cambridge eq's and EMI 140 plate verb. To my ears a world of difference.

I completely agree, I started off using nuendo and like I stated my boss had the waves bundle, so we had a few different things and when we switched over to Pro Tools we started playing around with the included plugins. I honestly say though if you want to buy some plugins go for it, but as far as the compression, eq, and dverb roll with the built in ones, and get other plugs besides those.

Sometimes we have to break away from what we are used to in order to try new things, and in doing so we find out that maybe the new things are better. Like now when I go back to nuendo I don't like it because it doesn't have my dverb (It does but its different) that I like so much.

maybe it's just me,but i used protools with waves 5.9.7

i had to do a recording assignment in college on an hd system <big fricken deal>today,,,,and we were forced to use digi plugins only.....

took about five minutes of using digi plugs before i properly wanted to kill myself!!!!

fair enough,,you can get a great sound for sure,,,but,me? i'm taking waves ANY day.....even just from an ease of use point of view.

Really? even the digirack 3 plugs? I thought they were great - good workhorse EQ/dynamics, great GUI.

i'll admit,i'd reach for the expander/gate and comp/limiter once in a while.....

would never go so far as to write them all off,,,but on the whole, i find waves so much nicer....

i wouldn't ever consider using dverb though.......i'm sure someone will say it's down to the users skill,,but i never liked the sound i got from it.

wow,,,,it really must just be down to preference then...

well,each to their own :)
