I would use the C1000s as drumsticks, or maybe let the dog fetch them.

For you, try them out. They will undoubtedly be brighter than the Oktavas, but you may like them. I've heard they make a decent snare mic.

C1000s

C1000s = I've heard them sound OK on cymbals.

The real winner is the Oktava, although I have a MXL603s that is great sounding for the price range.

I have a pair of both. I prefer the Oktavas for overheads 100% of the time, but regularly use the C1000s as snare mics with very good results.

I have three MK012's, and I'll use the 3rd one as a snare mic sometimes, with the pad of course. Back it off some or the proximity effect gets it too muddy.

The C1000S is vastly superior- as a nightstick. You smack somebody with those little Russian mics, and they don't do a damn thing! The C1000 is also superior as a paperweight, fishing sinker, or marital aid.-Richie

Now why do you have to go making jokes when the guy just wanted some advice. I don't get it! ( Yes I do) JK

Jokes are OK as long as you *are* answering the question, and you're not busting the poster's balls for asking it.-Richie

Personally I would listen to the mics and see which sounded better.

My $0.02

Yeah you never know. There was an instance a few years back where I'd have normally used two 012's for overheads but ended up using my single C1000. It was a real live room and it simply sounded better that way.

They're both really good mics IMO. I own the Oktava ( so maybe I am a little biased :)), but I've used both to good effect.

It's not all about mics though...the room, the instrument...the PERFORMANCE all has much to bear on the outcome.
