ok i am totally new to home recording. my dad had a bunch of this equipment he helped me hook it up. My only problem is hes really busy so i cant ask him to many questions. i have a vocal booth and im ready to start recording music the only problem is. it just doesnt sound good. what i have for a hook up is a audio interface which is the Motu 828 mkll. for my mic pre amp i have a Studio projects VTB1 V Series, and for my mic i have a Rode NT1-A. for my program im running Sonar 8. i really dont know how to use this program at all. so i tried to record i track i put the intsrumental on sonar and sang to it. the microphone doesnt sound clear and i know that has to do with the settings i was trying to mess with the settings on cue mix but it isnt really making a big difference. so when i record it sounds like its not blending in with the instrumental my voice is way louder then the instrumental. there just something wrong.
if anyone has any idea on how to help me please give feed back.
ps. are there any books out there that can help

There is a lot you need to learn, but to fix your immediate problem of too loud bad sounding mic, you probably need to just turn down the gain on the preamp, not the software. if that doesn't help, I'll offer up another solution.

ok so i turned the gain down but its not what i want. now what do you mean about multitracking i think thats what im looking for im a begginer and im usiong sonar 8 it is very difficult is anyone familiar with sonar 8. or shoudl i use another program i have a motu 828 mkll interface

A lot of people here swear by Reaper. There's even a forum for it (don't fear the reaper), check it out, and it's free.
