Slightly off topic but it had been mentioned....

Said it before and I'll say it again...

SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum pro. Yes its good for games, and movies. And surpringly by what is written in this forum, there is nothing wrong with it for music.

You know how I know this?

Because I actually use one for recording.
Every.
Single.
Day.

I get no latencyl, and my music sounds professional enough. There is certainly no obvious home made quality to it. I take a lot of pride in the production of my music, and if I thought it was limiting me, I would get something else. Music is my life, I'm not going to let myself be limited over a few hundred quid. And I'm not rich either. I have to work for what I want like everyone else.

However I see no need to change.

There is always the theory that a bad workman blames his tools. Not that its always true, but you can see where I'm going.

There are a lot of purists out there who beleive that if something is multifunctional, and not solely dedicated to a certain function, then it aint going to be any good at that certain function. They are especially going to be bitter if someone can pull off what they can using cheaper equipment. Sure maybe the uber expensive music cards out there may have a something a little extra, but I wouldnt pay the extra for it. In fact even with a higher salary the last thing I would consider is changing my card because I have never once noticed a single problem or limitation with it for what I am doing. In fact the only thing on my setup I would desparately like to change is to get some flat nice monitors. Everything else is great.

However if you have an Audigy without the interface hub then yes, its going to piss you off. Thats nothing to do with the inner workings though.

So lets hear some of your work. What are you using for monitors now?

Just using an old analogue hi fi. One without all the digital sound coloring crap. Works for me. But then I'm not trying to make money.

Trying to get a site sorted to host my music on....when I get round to it. Will post when done.

If you aren't using decent monitors in a properly treated listening area, what makes you think that you can hear what your soundcard is really doing?

Sorry mate - recording on an Audigy and monitoring through a hi-fi does not equal "nothing wrong with it for music". The difference is that on a hi-fi you won't be able to hear the differences between good converters and not good converters. The difference between an Audigy and even just an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is night and day - the first time you pair a good sound card with some good converters will be like putting glasses on for the first time ... all that detail you never knew was there!

It's not about putting down a 'multifunctional card' - it's about getting some good converters. That's all. If there were quality converters in an Audigy, Creative wouldn't be so busy talking up the converters in the 1212 to 1820 end of the E-Mu models range. Sorry! :)

And this is just weird. The problem people have with digital is that it DOESN'T colour the sound, where analogue flatters it. Not that that has ANYTHING to do with the frequency response of a pair of monitors ... which is all about magnets, cones and moving air ...

Besides the fact that the audigy doesn't sound very good, when they put '24 bit' all over the box without putting 24 bit converters in it, it became obvious that you couldn't trust the company.
Your monitoring situation is keeping you from being able to hear the difference. Once you do, you will feel ripped off.

Well funnily my hi fi isnt the only system I have listened to it on, and it sounds fine to me. So I don't care. I like the sound of my music. I'm not going to feel ripped off because I didn't buy it soley for making music. I'm also not trying to make money, I'm doing it for fun. I don't care who likes my music, I don't care who doesn't like it. Christ if I was using some old old piece of crap and I didnt have a problem with the way it sounded, then who cares.
Its not a status thing for me. I don't want everyone to see me as the guy with the coolest most professional stuff. I want to make music, for me, not for you, not for 'the kids'. For me. So I don't care if my card aint as good as yours. As far as I'm concerned it does what I want, and thats all that matters to me. If all I could afford was a shitty 4 track then thats what I'd use. As far as I'm concerned its good for home recording on a budget.

I never had any intention of making my music into some producers wet dream. I mean I could go on about why people need to sugar coat their music and must have the best equipment to make it sound good, but I won't go down that road.

Still, considering you can almost hear the gasps everytime someone round here says the word 'audigy', I find it hard to understand why someones sound card would pose such a problem to someone else they dont even know...

I think the problem here wasn't necessarily the Audigy...its the fact that this cat says he bought Nuendo (professional level software) and teamed it up with an Audigy (home based studio hardware). I think in all honesty, they are pointing out the fact that his copy of Nuendo is more than likely pirated. Just my guess.

We have a winner! I wonder how many of these software pirates know how much Nuendo costs? Probably not. I'm pretty sure it's $2k. I'm sure dude will come along and say his "FRIEND" sold it to him cheap. And then close the whole thread out with the typical, Why so much hate nigga. :D

I have to admit if I had the sort of money to buy nuendo I would indeed upgrade my hardware.

The other thing is that this guy is trying to get professional results. If you aren't, and you like the audigy, fine. But you came into the thread stating that the audigy was just fine. In the context of what our man was trying to do, it isn't.

I'm not quite sure who you think you're rebelling against ... it all sounds thoroughly teenage to be honest. Well done for you and a big round of applause if you are making professional (i.e. major-label release-standard) recordings and mixes on your Audigy. If you're not, I don't know why you're posting. This thread wasn't about whether you were happy with your music, whether you wanted other people to like you music, whether you like "digital colouration monitors", whether having a decent set of converters constitutes "sugar-coating" your music or how you wanted people to perceive the equipement you do own, or what it says about you to them. You started on about all that because you found out that home users with trained ears have made qualitative judgements to buy better gear ... and that the better gear need not be more expensive than the gear you have. It just so happens that higher-end users agree with the budget users (such as myself), who are trying to make the best music they can with next-to-no budget whatsoever.

Actually, this thread was about some guy who wanted to make "pro" recordings with a sub-standard consumer sound card, a crap preamp and some stolen software. He found out that that wasn't possible and, more importantly, that even if he owned the high-end gear, he still wouldn't have a clue how to use it.

Well done to you if you know how to get the best from what you have ... and I look forward to you learning that you can have better for your money. It just so happens that an Audigy 2 costs MORE than an Audiophile 2496, which has FAR better converters which benefit both your musical and your gaming and movie-watching experiences:

Didn't you just finish saying that you "bought" Nuendo for just under $1000.00 ? That's kind of contradictory to what you'r saying now isn't it?

BTW. Thanks. This thread has given me the best laughs I've had in a while. Creative! Hah! Now that's funny!
