I found a song today that I wrote and recorded TWELVE YEARS ago, with two tape decks, a bass, a guitar, an SM57 and a drum machine!

The sound quality is terrible, but the emotion is... wow.

Ahh, the memories. I remember when I had a dual cassette deck with a mic input, and I would make multi-track songs by recording from one tape to the other while recording something in live. Not only was the sound quality terrible, but it got probably 50% slower by the end... Of course, at the time, I couldn't believe the sound I was getting. This is all that and more.
 
Isn't it amazing how a method that shold sound SO BAD can sound so good? (reletively!)

OMG! That sounded like it was a real old tape(like a professional one). Very good job on that.
 
Hey, you can never capture the real 'feeling' again,...

'cause that was the moment it was, captured on tape.

You may, however, be capable of remaking the same song better, while maybe not capturing the original 'feeling', perhaps giving it a whole new life, with a whole new energy,...

-a "now" energy, that may be similar to that 'original feeling', but somehow still different, better,... more now, more wow.

We all evolve as musicians. I'm sure there's no one on this board who wouldn't be able to take his old 12-year old ideas and recordings, and make even better contemporary recordings, now.

I have a few remakes on my mind, too. I'd like to take some older songs I just did basic 'one-off demos' of, and do highly conceptualized, highly produced versions of them.

Anyway, happy recording to you. New or old, home recordings are cool. Sometimes you can take older works, and breathe new life into them. Good luck.

Gavin, I really loved the song, no kidding.

I wouldn't just say that. What I liked about it is the 'feeling', energy or 'spirit' you got into the song. Also, stylistically and melodically, it's exactly the type of music I like. The arrangement of parts sounded really good. It reminds me tremendously of some mainstream rock, that I'm just having trouble putting a name on. I'll tell you when I remember. This song has all the elements of music that I like: it's got lots of heart, melody, power, it's a little raw, but it's exciting music, not in any way boring,... exciting and moving.

Anyway, there's a style, song or band that your stuff really reminds me of, but I can't place the name right now, I'll tell you later about that.

Also, what I like about this song, and your music, is that you've seemed to capture the essence of what I'm doing musically, too, only in a more original, more intense way.

I can hear that there are little, tiny flaws in there, but not enough to detract of the beauty of the song. This song is excellent, and fresh sounding, while sounding very mainstream too. I give this song 2 thumbs up, and I'm not kidding you in the least.

I think that your recording and my own cover tunes overlap a lot stylistically and energy-wise, only you're a songwriter, and I'm mainly a cover artist. Pls take me up on this offer, I sincerely liked your song, and I'd really like you to hear my stuff too.

I'd really like to hear a 2002 remake of this song. With some high production value and a little polishing here & there, you could have a legitimate power-tune on your hands, a real hit.

Trust me, I wouldn't say this stuff if I didn't mean it. That song just clicked in my head, and I liked it a lot, composition-wise I think it's great, maybe a cult classic or mainstream hit, who knows.

BTW, like your profile, I'm a pilot too, and I also have an '84 Ibanez Roadstar II. Small world.

Gav, no shit, great job, keep recording and writing, and remake that song, it could be bigger than you think.
