Kenny...Wrong tube for the NTK!...don't power it up with the 6072 mounted inside...the NTK and K2 are designed to use a 6922 type tube, and although it shares the 9 pin configuration, it does not share the same internal design...you need to stay within the 6922/6DJ8/ECC88/E88CC/CCa family...the 6072 is a variation on the 12AY7 which is a member of the 12AT7/12AU7/12AX7/12AY7 family...here is a link to the many tubes that conform to the 6922 design:

...I use NOS Seimens E88CC tubes in both my NTK and K2 mics...Amperex variations are also recommended...you can find fairly inexpensive RCA 6DJ8 tubes labelled "Made In Germany" which are actually either Seimens or Amperex E88CC tubes relabelled for RCA...

...the 6072/12AY7 is an excellent tube for use in the MXL V77 or V69 mics as well as many of the other Chinese tube mics that come with 12AT7 or 12AX7 as stock tubes...here is a link to the 6072/12AY7 types:

Was it a 6072?? I didn't get that from his post. GE 5-star are available in a lot of different tube types. It's just GE's best quality tube. Kind of like how a JAN (Joint Army Navy) tube has to meet certain requirements for quality, stability and microphonics. Also has special mica rings, etc.

Well as I live and learn, thanx kid. I did get it for my 77 but was trying it out elsewhere first.

...you're right Phil...I just assumed it was a 6072 from the circumstance as he described and the fact that the 6072/6072A black-plate is the most popular of the 5-Star series of GE tubes for audio application...the fact that it was also 2AM and I just got home from a gig might have also contributed to the assumption...:o

PS...although GE did market variations of the 6DJ8 and 6922, no 5-Star versions were offered for these tubes...I knew that!... :D
