noise reduction options?

Ok, I got the 80-8 not long ago, it came with the box for the dbx noise reduction. haven't tried it out to see if it works(nr wasn't guaranteed to work, long story) if it doesnt' work where would be the best place to get fixed?
here is my other option, he gave me a box of lt sound noise reduction units.
said if the dbx box doens't work i could have one of them if they work.
most of them powered up fine, just have to run them when i get some tape.
anyone have any idea on the lt sound units?
one more question.........machine was biased for ampex 456 not long ago
can i use atr ok or will i need rebiased? or should i just use the 911 stuff?

I have honestly never heard of "Lt" and google isn't turning up much.

If it works that's great, but unless it's actually a rebranded DBX or Dolby system, you'll be encoding the tapes in a very rare and weird format. This can easily come back to bite you if the NR system dies or you ever want to play them back on another machine for any reason.

As for tape, SM911 is the closest match to 456. On paper you're supposed to rebias it for each batch of tape, in practice the difference between 911 and 456 is close enough that they're pretty much interchangeable.
I'm not sure the same goes for ATR, it's one of those things you'd have to try and see...

yeah, there's not much out there on LT sound he's the guy that makes the vocal elminators.......i guess he used to make studio equipment. from the same guy i also got some lt echo control centers......it's a spring reverb with a analog delay.......very trippy and cool. i will try lt sound themselves but i heard they're not good on obsolete support. i guess i will find out for fun and see what's up with them. hopefully the original unit with the machine works! thanks for the info!
