Noise gates? what? n00b alert

I record my drums with studio projects b1's. recorderman method. M-audio preamp, behringer mixer (yeah not neve quality stuff but I love whats its doing for me)
There's a hiss though. I assume a noise gate would fix that. Can you use those with that micing method/ those mics?

Any help?
Affordable recommendations?

No gates.. and that thing's for ground problems.
Better to first ask (and work out) why you have noticeable noise. Drums aren't quiet where noise should be high (relative.
The whole chain first, and what have you tried different to sort it out?

actually now that ive listened back the noise isnt as bad as i thought, it just sounded crazy while i was monitoring. now i just need to eq a little...
