I only meant that I should like to confirm that what I'm getting is indeed normal. Why am I getting different results in programs that use WDM than in programs that use ASIO? Am I getting less noise in Studio One just because the volume is lower, or is there really less noise in proportion to the signal I wish to record? That sort of thing.

Ah yeah, Ok, I getcha.
Just a suggestion, but you could record a sine wave under wdm and again under asio.
Leave some silence after each recording and use the same gain both times.
Line the two tracks up in a selected daw and adjust one so that the sines are the same level, if necessary.
Now you can accurately compare your noise levels.
