No matter what you think of Pro Tools or Digidesigns Mbox/002 I am suprised there is NO forum here for those. They are some of the hottest sellers!

Pro Tools users don't need a forum.
They're pros. Forums are for cretins like us using Cakewalk

Define hottest sellers.

Please don't use the "Industry Standard" talk either. Apple is supposeldy an "industry standard" for certain creative fields, yet they have only 2 % of overall market share when it comes to personal computing as a whole.

Agreed. As much as I dearly love Macs, their proprietary model as well as high prices are something that I just can't do anymore (ironically, that's the argument I used to use against Windows). I personally don't like to be tied to one company's stuff...same deal with ProTools. Great, sleek software (my band recorded an entire album using mostly ProTools) but the whole "gotta use Digidesign hardware and software and plug-ins and upgrades etc...and pay a premium for the privilege" is not terribly appealing to me.

cheers

i could see a propellerhead forum being usefule. or even a softsynth forum to cover reason and project 5.... maybe it's just easier to browse around for a website more for that kind of stuff

Digidesign has pretty good forums at duc.digidesign.com . Whether rational or not, a lot of people hate Pro Tools and Digidesign, so it's probably better that there isn't a forum here, it would probably be half hate messages from non-users.

Charger thank you for the link.

The MBox is on the top 10 list of sold items at the major online retailers. It is not a concrete factual based comment. But the bottom line is the unit sells a lot and the MBox is made for CONSUMERS not "pros".

I read these forums quite a bit and did NOT expect to get such silly posts in return. That is the ONLY way I can describe some return posts. If you don't like pro tools fine - but why bother posting wise crack posts to a "serious" post?

And for the RECORD if you use Pro Tools - there are still a gazillion posts on this site that are useful. This whole "I hate this" attitude is crazy. Sometimes I think people just need something to dislike no matter what "the medium" is!

the longer you stay around homerecording, you'll just come to terms that these people don't like Pro Tools. some have their reasons, some just like to complain a lot...i guess it's human nature. dont' worry, it's not just pro tools they complain about.
fury, take a look at the link in my signature...that might help you.
peace

Once you get past the sneering of others, Pro Tools is actually a really killer platform and a lot of fun to work with. You will get better Pro Tools responses from the digi forums, but there's a lot of other info on this site that is useful.

I'm curious as to why most people don't like it.

It is heavily used in professional studios in my area, so I am wondering why people don't like it, or wouldn't even dare putting in a forum for it.

The line here has always been that digi has its own forums over at the DUC. In my opinion, it might be helpful to have one here as well since the DUC can get a little overwhelmed. In any case, you can always just use the Computer Recording forum and post PT stuff there. I think it just stands out here since there's a separate forum dedicated to a bunch of other platforms.

Digi hasn't really been in the home recording market for too long. The 001 was the first step in that direction but they didn't really butt their way into the market until the 002/Mbox. This being a Home Recording forum that was created awhile ago.....the creator of the forum probably didn't find the need for a PT forum at the time. Because probably at the time, they were a professional studio system.
You also don't see an SSL forum here do you? A board you'll probably see in all the "industry standard" studios....but really you rarely hear it mentioned on this forum.

i think people overall got sick of the protools hype that used to be around. its still around. consumers know protools which might be why its considered standard. What people around here hate is thats what people expect when making "good" recording when we all know that protools has very little to do with it.

its like a stereo type. I feel the same way if a client calls and asks immediately if i have protools or not. Its like they are asking me if im white or black because whites seem to be the standard in recording music.

maybe bad analogy. But i know i get sick of hearing protools being the best when i know from experience that the stuff i did with the old Protools HD2 and Protools 6.2 (thats one of the TDM packages) isnt as good as the stuff that i did on my nuendo. It was basically an over night change from the two and a day and night contrast between the two.

Even though the 001 and 002 should be excluded from that stereotype, people still dont like to here anything about protools at all.

so whether or not its relevant to the particular subject, people still get a little "offended" by the word pro tools.

I don't really understand the ProTools stigma either, and much less the absence of a PT forum. There are a lot of people who browse this BBS who use ProTools, why not expand the community by including them? Sure, there's always the official ProTools forums, and a bunch of other forums that I'm sure are quite nice for discussing ProTools, but why turn people away if they want to browse this BBS?

It couldn't possibly hurt, could it? I mean, granted there are a lot of people here who absolutely despise ProTools for whatever reason, but why should that matter? I personally can't stand working with analog tape, but I wouldn't want the analog forum to be taken away. There are people who love analog. There are people who love ProTools. Why not include everyone?

Thanks for the latest intelligent posts :) they are interesting and make good points.

This topic has been discussed a 100 times. To ende the discussion, I just started my own PT forum, the one our friend Benny has also in his signature: www.protoolsforum.com

It's very commendable that you started your own PT forum, and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say thank you for providing a place for PT users to discuss their software/hardware of choice.

But ... as I stated in my previous post, why force people to go to an entirely different BBS to discuss a certain brand of home recording gear? What harm could there possibly be in expanding the Homerecording.com community?

Granted, discussion of ProTools here is not outlawed by any means, but half the replies in any ProTools post (which have to go in one of the general forums) are something like "omg wtf y do u use protools get cubase or n-tracks there so much better." There is a lot less brand-bashing in the brand-specific forums, e.g. I don't go into the Cakewalk forums and go "omg u noobs protools is what the PROS use!!1!"

Every piece of multitrack recording software has problems and shortcomings. Every audio interface has problems and shortcomings. There is no perfect method with which to record -- so why single out one particular brand to ignore?

i don't think Dragon singled out JUST Pro Tools. Pro Tools is an industry standard....true....but the industry is not home recording, which is what this site is about. The ratio of Pro Tools to non-pro tools users on this forum is very slim. So my guess is when he created this forum, it was all about which threads would people visit the most.
Just bookmark the other Pro Tools site and click on it when you feel the need to talk PT. no biggy.
