I'm looking around for a nice guitar amp mic (preferably condenser) that's also somewhat versatile. I have a Twin Reverb that I'll be recording and need something to compliment my sm57. I play alot of clean stuff, very little distortion. I also do alot of atmosphere stuff like swells with lots of reverb and junk like that, so a mic that would also do good on that would be nice.

Also, the twin has two speakers, how do you go about recording that? set each mic on either speaker or just record one or what?

The AT3035 is about $200 and rocks on guitar cabs in my opinion if you're going the condensor route.

What Warhead said. I've had really good results with the 3035. It's also good on vocals, and I've used it on acoustic bass too. Really nice mic for the money.

Mainly, I record one speaker, but many people use multiple mics to fill out the sound. I tend to just use lots of different parts, personally. :)

i use the oktava 219. it is kind of dark and records nice with the sm 57.when i record guitar, iuse the sm 57, the oktava 219, and direct,

Thanks, The AT3035 actually looks really nice, I was kinda looking at the SPB1 but it seems like I'd get more out of the At3035 based on your comments and what I've read around the web.

i've gotten a lot of great results using a Studio Projects B1 on guitar amps. honestly, i think that amps are one of its best uses. i've always looked at it as the sm57 of LDCs (MDCs).

with a twin, though, make sure to use a pad of some flavor--it's easy to overload the mic with that kind of wattage. nothing's worse than laying down a bitchin track and find that it's littered with mic clipping.

how do you mic a 2 speaker cabinet? find the best sounding speaker and mic that one--one's usually better sounding than the other. be sure to protect your ears while doing that. you could also go for the "room mic" thing and put the mic 4 or 6ft back (salt to taste) and get both speakers. with the tremelo and chorus that's on some of those twin-style amps, you have to mic both speakers to get the stereo effect.

personally, i like a combination of a dynamic up close and a condenser back a ways, and i usually use a smaller wattage tube amp with a single speaker.

Hey Flatcat!

How well did the 3035 work on acoustic bass and what kind of music was it?

The Baby Bottle is cool!..ya gotta get a pad for it because its got a pretty hefty output! For less cash the AT4033 does well{IMHO}nice with "grindy" guitar sounds
