Hi,

This is my first post on the forum, although I have been a regular visiter for quite a while, picking up tips and tricks.

This is also my first serious attempt at mixing a song, and I would really appreciate any comments and suggestions on any aspect of the song, but especially on the production and mix.

The song is called Baboon Rage (Devastion 2000). It is a tongue in check, heavy metal sort of thing, with incomprehensible vocals!

Many thanks, and I hope you enjoy it!

Ya know....
I had just a bit of trouble hearing the music over that incredible noise....
Oh ...wait a minute...that's the vox...what language is this grunted in?:D

Seriously though...WebCyan should hear this...this is punk...

The guitars are cool...well performed and recorded....drums need help...but I cannot make any suggestions...I just don't know enough...perhaps someone else can help..I just cannothear the kick at all....the bass is lost in the mix as well...weak and muddy..

Good luck with it though...

Hmmmmm.

Interesting. I agree with Joro, It needs some bass and kick, it was all treble.
Although not my style, it was well done. I really like what you did around 2:30 into it, because it was getting old, and that part was the highlight for me. Pretty cool.

What the hell are the words? Are there any? I guess it doesnt matter, the effect was fine.
Why don't you list the equipment involved, I am curious. Cheers

Thanks for your input.

DavidK, the vocals were screamed into the back of a 414, thats why it sounds so muffled. I wish it hadn't been done that way now, but, at least the passion is there! The words are, well, too many to post here. It does feature practically every swear word there is though!

The guitars are my stratocaster on the single coil neck pickup, thru a marshall 30th anniversary stack mic'ed with a 57 and an audio technica 4033a. The drums are from an Boss Dr770 (i think!) apart from the snare which is a sample.

About the lack of bass...

You know its funny, I thought it was too bassy! I guess thats what I get for mixing through my hifi!

Thanks for your support.

Pretty good. Cool groove. A little more bass and kick will help. An SM57 or 58 through a miced guitar amp would be a cool way to do those kinds of vocals IMO.

actually, I might split the vocals and try to bring more attention to them. the "666" is really trebly...same with the snare.

mixmkr, what do you mean by split the vocals? Do you mean using two mono tracks panned hard left and right?

Thanks for the advice on the eq issues, I will bear it in mind for my next mixes.

yeah...either that (two performances then), or with a delay unit. Use a short delay...like under 50ms at least.
