I purchased an Alesis Firewire 16 about 8 month ago and it is still not hooked up. No matter what I do, I can't get anything to my pc. I know almost nothing about this stuff but trying to get something going for my kids. Any help would be appreciated.

I have Fostex studio monitor speakers. And, yes, I have the Alesis manual but it's a little confusing to me.

I've installed the newest Alesis drivers on my laptop (because I want to be mobile) and it sees the mixer. It came with Cubase LE. It may be too sophisticated for me.

1. Can I use any other software for it such, as Cool Edit
2. Can I plug my monitor speakers directly to the mixer or do I need to go through an amplifier/sound card. In either case, which inputs/outputs.
3. Are there any websites for people such as me.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same mixer, and I love it. So maybe I can help.

So you can't get anything recorded onto your pc?
You should try using Cubase, it's not as complicated as you might think. It'll take a little while to get things down, but it's not that bad. I believe the manual tells you how to get the mixer all hooked up and recognized in Cubase. If you haven't tried Cubase, you really should. I have no idea whether you could use the mixer with Cool Edit, I have no experience there.

If your monitors are powered by something other than the mixer, I'm pretty sure you can just plug them into the mixer. I always hook up my monitors into the Main Mix output. It really doesn't matter, it just basically is a different knob/slider adjusting the volume. (at least I'm not past it making any difference)

I have no idea of any other sites.

But if you are more specific about your questions and such. Or you have more. Let me know. I've been using this mixer for a bout a year now, and I think I could help you out if you need it.

Just a wild guess on my part but, if you're working with WINDOWS, you may need to get your DEVICE MANAGER to recognize any new "devices."

I've had that problem a few times. But, I may be way off base too.

Good luck.
