F4 is the shortcut key to VST Connections. Click the 'input' tab, then add bus. Choose Mono, select input 1 from the Tascam. Then create a track in cubase, Project>Add Track>Audio>Mono. You should be able to record. Make sure to press the monitor icon on the track (looks like a side pic of a speaker), as well as the record enable button (red target thingy).

You should be good to go. :)

2012-08-09_1205 - Sluggo42's library so far, now making a mono track

!!!!
I have a signal finally.

Is the trick to make a VST connection BRFORE making the track??

Going to record a few seconds of talking to see if it works and plays back!!!!

YAY!!!!!

Yes, always need to create an input bus. Then disable the monitor button for playback. There are settings in preferences where you can make that happen automatically or not. Not sure what the default is.

ok, but it's not making any sound on playback, but I DO HAVE A WAVE !!!!:guitar:

I wonder why it's not making sound on playback...

Also, once you have a typical setup that you like for your particular needs, you can Save As Template. Next time you open Cubase, just select that template, and all of your inputs, outputs, tracks, whatever you have saved there, will come up automatically. :)

My good man, I would like to kiss you right now!
But, since that's gay and I'm not, perhaps I cold buy you a tall cold beer??

VST Connections. Outputs tab. Is stereo out there? If not add it. Tascam out 1&2 are what you want as output.

All I needed was to deselect the monitor button, I will research how to make that all auto, I remember seeing that somewhere...

They should clarify that you need to make the VST connections BEFORE you make the track. All this because of that simple fact... I was so close the whole time.

I am SOOOOOO HAPPY right now. You have solved HOUrS and HOURs of angst for me. Seriously, if you are ever in so cal, you have a free guide service bass fishing day at your request. Tha'ts all I really can offer other that a drum lesson, but you probably already know better drummers than me, and that beer is available too.

YOU DA MAN!!!:drunk:

It usually is something simple, though the fact that Cubase isn't simple to setup, it takes a while to find the issue. Been there, done that myself...

Your setup for Reaper should be quite similar to what we did here. I have not played with Reaper in quite a while, so that would be question for the Reaper forum. I think you will probably be able to figure it out yourself now tho. :D

Nice! I love to fish!

Glad I could help man. Now go record some drums and show us what you got! :D

By the way, all but one song on my website (Becoming The Hermit), were recorded with a Tascam US1641 (basically the same as your 1800). The only one I actually play drums on there is the Joe Matera tune.

One other quick tidbit is on your VST Connections>Outputs page, be sure to select the Click on your output bus if you want to hear the click track.

Glad to see you got it working. Jimmy is the MAN!!

ok, well I got the mic's and a stereo for my edrums (yammi dtxreems) all working, and playing with some effects and the such.

ut I still seem to have a problem getting a guitar to play in 9 or 10. (the guitar/line in 1/4" jacks) it will play, but I can't seem to get it to meter up. It's just super quiet.

I have the button depressed, out is for "line in", "depressed is for guitar".. I have my SG plugged into #9 and VST there as well. It kinda gets it, ut I have to jack the signal way up to register on the meter, and it's all clippy and distorted at that point.

I'm a tourney bass fisherman, nothing special, but still guide worthy, and I can put you on fish. You just lemme know when. I have a ourney rigged bass boat, ready to go...
Retirement is a bitch.... aint it?

It is probably just low output from your guitar. I typically run direct through a preamp first to raise the gain. With LE, you don't have an input level mixer, so try this. Insert VSTDynamics in the first slot, turn the Threshold to 0, click off 'auto' under Make Up Gain, and raise your level there, previous to your guitar sim.

What level are you getting into Cubase? -18dbfs is your ideal input level. That is vaguely the digital equivalent to 0db in the analog realm. Though digital recording has the headroom to go hotter, most plugins are designed to operate best around this level. There is much discussion about this around here, but that is a good place to aim for.

Man, I would love to retire with a boat! :D
