What isn't working? Did you make the 1800 your default sound device in Windows? That is how you would hear Media Player, Youtube, whatever. The Release Driver option allows Windows to use the 1800, even when Cubase is.

Your next step will be to create input bus's via VST Connections under Devices. Then, on an audio track, you will select input bus via the Inspector to the left of the project screen. This is where the Getting Started documentation can really help.

oh snap
now the whole stupid thing just crashed, and I have to restart it.... grrrrrrrr

It can do that. It is usually caused by something else using the driver when you change latency setting. Or any audio driver discrepancy.

yes sir, I spent two days in the getting started documentation... that is why I am here now, because something just isn't making sense.
I went the whole route with the us1800 as the driver with no luck, then that is why I went to the other driver - ASIO. I still believe that one is supposed to work better, because while in the TASCAM section, I read a few posts that indicated that..

I have used the search engine in here hard. I have read the whole quick start thing and watched the tutorials too.
I deeply value your help and I don't come into these things lightly...

ok, I restarted and have a blank project up, I am going to open un a mono track, to try to get a mic 1 signal only for starters

Yeah, I know how frustrating it can be. It is absolutely the 1800 drivers that you want to use. There are no issues with them.

Ok, let's backtrack first. Go HERE and make sure you have the correct driver installed for your computer (32 or 64 bit)

ok, doing that now

That's right. Only digital inputs are active by default. You do not activate inputs here. You do to Devices>Device Setup>VST Connections. There is a shortcut F key to get there, but not in the studio and don't remember it.

Add bus (input). Mono for almost everything. A stereo input is only for things like a CD player, or keyboard, that actually has stereo out. Add the bus and select the desired input channel from the Tascam. Then you can record to a track.

Mono 1 input bus will always be the default input selected when you create a mono audio track. Project>Add Track>Audio>Mono.

2012-08-09_1144 - Sluggo42's library

I got the same message when I tried to load off the original disk.
However, I did load the driver from the disc as specifically directed to the first time..

Say, I bet it won't load cuz the USB cable is hooked up. But when I did it the first time, it wasn't until it told me to do so... I'll try that again

F4 is the shortcut key to VST Connections. Click the 'input' tab, then add bus. Choose Mono, select input 1 from the Tascam. Then create a track in cubase, Project>Add Track>Audio>Mono. You should be able to record. Make sure to press the monitor icon on the track (looks like a side pic of a speaker), as well as the record enable button (red target thingy).

You should be good to go. :)

That's for sure. Make sure Cubase is closed as well.

And just to be clear, the driver you will use, is relative to your OS. (64 or 32 bit). Regardless of whether you are running 32 or 64 bit Cubase. I'm not even sure LE has a 64 bit install option. It has been a while.

I do have LE5 pulled up on my laptop now, just to make sure I am giving you accurate info. :)
