Hello,

I recently bought the Zoom MRS-4 Digital 4 track. So far it seems very good but not too different from the old Fostex I had. My question is this, can I get a good sounding demo with just this 4 track alone or do I have to shell out more bucks for a mixer? I am hoping to buy the RT3 Drum Machine to go along with it and a keyboard but that will drain all my money. I am just looking for a good sounding demo and hopefully this machine will deliver.

Any opinions or advice? Please send it my way.

Thanks,
Lestat

Have you considered using your computer for recording?

Lestat,
I also own the zoom mrs-4.For the price it cost and all the features it has,it's a great little workhorse.(i do hip hop music,non-live programmed stuff)I haven't used it with live instruments though! One thing I noticed though that if you use the built in compression and you go over 5 (it'a a scale of 1-9) you get this annoying hiss like a cassette 4 track.I've yet to solve that one.Otherwise it's a very good machine for the loot.

P.S.You have to remember that it's entry level so it will be limited

Les,
almost forgot I also own the zoom 123,234,and the 323 drum machines.I don't plan on getting the other one as I feel it's a waste of money since i went overboard and got 3 already!

thanks for the help.

i have considered using my computer but i already spent the money on the zoom. can i use midi for the drums and just buy a program instead of using a standard drum machine?

any help would be nice as well as any tips and tricks with the mrs-4.

thanks

It really depends on your definition of good. You should be able to make decent demos but if your looking for a really polished sound you will definitley need some better pre's, mixer and compressors.
