I am currently using one adat Lx20 with an analog 4 buss board.
I would like to get into more tracks and automation. I do not have a lot of experience with computer based recording, however, I do use Cool Edit Pro at times, mostly to do edits to the stereo mix (normalization, fades, etc....). I have looked at the All in one options eg., VS2480, AW4416, DPS24.......But another way I am starting to lean is this:

An analog 8 buss and the Alesis HD24. And a computer to do final mix tweeking. Just seems to me this could very well be the best and most flexable option. This could be done pretty reasonably by using the Behringer 9000 with the HD24. Are any of you guys using this combination? Any Suggestions?

I use an HD24 with a StudioMaster 8 buss console and I fly tracks in and out of a computer with a MOTU 2408 for editing. I mix with the mixer, not in the computer. It works for me.

Thanks for the reply, Track Rat. I really feel comfortable with an analog board for laying down tracks, but 24 faders are a lot to keep your eye on at mixdown time. I also have thought about the Tascam DM24, digital mixer. I have heard it doesn't work real well with the HD24. This is the one part of the equation that I think I am really getting sold on ..THE HD24 ( this unit is hard to beat for the price)! How do you like yours?

I use a similar setup to Track Rat's.... different mixer and computer interface..........

And the HD24 is just amazing........!

Yeah, I couldn't be happier with mine.

Yeah, I think I am getting sold on the HD24. Do you guys think the analog 8 buss is the way to go?.......or how about pairing the unit up with the Tascam DM24? .........about 4500.00 by the time you get both units and the two extra Adat cards I would need to get up to 24 tracks of lightpipe.

Sorry, I've not used the Tascam. As far as what's the way to go? It's really up to you; what you think sounds better. For the way I work, I like the sound of the analog board. It's not about having nobs to tweak, I'm perfectly happy mixing with a mouse. If I were going to mix in the digital domain, I'd do it in the computer rather than buy a digital mixer but that's just me.

How's this: Behringer 9000 analog 8 buss...1400.00

Alesis HD24................................1800.00
________

3200.00 Plus a couple hundred for cables..oh Yeah, I guess I would want an extra hardrive and caddy too.

Could I get by for awhile without a computer? I mean with the editing features the HD24 has built in? Maybe later a decent computer and editing software? In my mind this is starting to make more since to me than the "all in One" units (eg., vs,yamaha and akai, korg etc.)

Stay FAR and CLEAR from any suck-@ss Behringer Mixer!
Further more, 1400.00 is farrrr to much money for a wack-@ss 9000!!!!
But you will fall in Luv with the HD24's simple operation!

Yeah, It looks like the HD24 is the one to have. I have not heard anything bad about it (only a small complaint that the track arming buttons are kind of small) I think this may be true of the other similar units out there.

As for the mixer, I only mentioned the Behringer because it is priced so low. I would rather have a Mackie all things considered. What fo you think about the HD24 paired up with the Tascam DM24 digital baord?
