Hi,

I have a konnekt 8 audio interface along w/ cubase le, cool edit pro, and fl studios. After I Record something, the waveform only shows waves for my left speakers. It doesn't record the right side for some reason. So basically I only produce sound and it comes out through the left speakers. The panning channels are all fine.

What are you recording? Is it a stereo source (e.g. a synth or whatever), or a mono source (e.g. a vocal track?

If the latter, then, yes, it's no surprise that you only get one side of a stereo track working. You should create a mono track for this.

If it is a stereo track that you are recording and there is no signal on one side, check that the stereo leads are working (for example, swap the ends around to see if that changes things).

I'm tracking guitars and vocals at the moment. How would I make the guitars stereo and vocals mono since they're both only producing noise on the left speakers.

For the guitar, you need two sources to make a stereo recording. Like two mics, or one mic and the p/u (if it's acoustic-electric). In cubase, you would create a stereo track and assign both inputs from the Konnect 8.

For vocals, you create a mono track, then assign which ever channel of the konnect 8 your mic is plugged into.

Without reading the details on your interface, it looks like it only records two channels at once, so if you want a stereo recording of the guitar, you'll have to track vocals later.

I'm tracking electric guitar actually. The konnekt 8 apparently has a hi-z guitar input and can't you just plug into the unit and record?

Yes, you can plug directly into the Hi-Z input of your interface, in which case, it would be mono.

You should read the manual.

Sorry, I got the interface off ebay and it didn't come w/ the manual :(. So Is there a way to set the e.guitars stereo through just a direct input in the unit?

Nope. Single source means mono.

You can record the guitar twice on two separate mono tracks playing the same part, then pan each track hard right and hard left. It's a very common method. Actually, you record it 4 times and pan 2 hard right and hard left, then the other 2 Right 50% and left 50%. Play each part as close to the same as the previous as you can. The subtle differences will give a nice full sound.

Thanks for the help. I Switched it to mono but it still looks like this. The sound only comes out through my left speakers.

If you look at your Track 1, it is showing as a stereo track, and quite rightly, it shows the signal being rcorded on the left, and nothing on the right.

It is the track itself that needs to be made a mono track.
