Never Act Like U Know All
I had a post a few days ago about building a new PT LE system. Now don't get me wrong, I really want a digi003/PT LE package, but I was thinking, if I could use some existing software, maybe I can save some money.

So, question#
1. Will my M-Audio Delta-66 w/omni breakout box work with PT LE?

2. I also have a Delta 44 with breakout box, will that work? And if it does, will it wirk in conjunction with the Delta 66 together for more inputs?

3. I have a Unitor-8 serial 8X8 midi interface, will this work with PT LE or do I have to have something more modern with usb such as the MOTU MIDI Express XT (8X8)

4. Since 003's only have a few in/out's of audio, are they stackale, meaning can you use more than 1 in a system?

5. If you can use more than 1, do they have to be on their own USB port, or can you have them on a hub?

Sorry for being ignorant to this system, but I'm doing my own research, but I figured I'd ask the experts for first hand knowledge/info.

Thanks in advance

PS, Will my Akai MPD24 midi controller work with Pro Tools to control volumes / pans etc?

1. Will my M-Audio Delta-66 w/omni breakout box work with PT LE? no. but it will work with M-powered

2. I also have a Delta 44 with breakout box, will that work? see the answer above
And if it does, will it work in conjunction with the Delta 66 together for more inputs? no it will not

3. I have a Unitor-8 serial 8X8 midi interface, will this work with PT LE or do I have to have something more modern with usb such as the MOTU MIDI Express XT (8X8) i don't know anything about this so i can't answer

4. Since 003's only have a few in/out's of audio, are they stackale, meaning can you use more than 1 in a system? no they are not stackable

ok so see my answers to your questions above. if you want to go with an 003 system i would say put the above items up for sale and use the proceeds to offset the cost of the new hardware.

a DIGI003 as is gives you 4 inputs that have preamps on them and 4 line inputs. you can connect any 4 other preamps to the the line inputs for a total of 8 inputs. a pair of m-audio DMP3s will run you less than 300 bucks. the preamps built in to the 003, while nothing special, are entirely useable.

you can add more inputs by connecting an A/D unit with an ADAT output such as one of the presonus digimax boxes or something similar. you can have another two channels available through spdif also. with all of this you end up with 20 available channels.

most people recording at home however probably don't need more than the original 8 unless trying to record a whole band at once.

1. No

2. No

3. Might work - generally speaking the Midi information is handled by the OS, and then presented to Pro Tools, so in theory the connection type shouldn't matter.

4. No

5. Since you can't use more than one, irrelevant, though it's worth pointing out the 003 is a firewire interface, not USB

Thanks for the reply so quick.

You're so right, duh --- I did read it's fire wire :D

Maybe I should add this.

On my Dman 66 w/Omni, has 2 mic xlr/line inputs on the front, and 2 line in's on the back. Heres how I have it set up.

1. I have a Yamaha MG32 in which I run the outs of the board to the line in's on the back. Nice and clean. The MG32 has a roland fantom xr rack, jd-990, yamaha motif es rack, korg triton rack, m1 rack, virus ti rack & a gigastudio daw connected to it.

2. I use the "L" xlr input panned to the center on the front panel for a microphone, and the

3. "R" xlr connection panned to the center for a mic for acoustic guitars, and the center line in or the "R" comming from the output of a Roland GR-99 elec. guitar efx processor.

It' s a basic, clean setup. No distortion/noise.

Very nice for a home/project studio

So the 003 would give me the pretty much the same that I have now. 4 xlr/line in's.

But, it's the midi inputs I have a problem with. To a point, I which there was more. I wouldn't use the digi003 so much for midi in/outs for synths, i would just use 2 MIDI In's for my midi controller & Akai MPD Drum pad controller, and 1 of the outs for go straight to the Gigastudio Daw since that doesnt require a in, I'm only triggering the daw for drums.

Or should I just go for a MBox 2 Pro? Or just eat it and since my motto is 'do it right the first time' and just get an 003?

Thanks in advance.
