something was clipping in the track I think

the guitar is midrangey and almost piercing

the vocals are a bit loud and in a wierd space

I like the song.

that's pretty weird. some people say they hear clipping, others don't. That is confusing. The hi-hat is very clear in the mix.. other than that I don't hear anything that strains on my ears.. so it's difficult to know what to fix.

I'm probably one of the few people here who can tell you this, but some parts sound sssssssssssooooooooo much like 'Cradle of Filth,' it is almost a cover......... there is clipping....you hear it most during the vocals but it is no doubt there.. It was distracting at times... I would have enjoyed it much more if it werent for the noise.. too normalized or something....I can't really listen too it as well as I would have liked because of the crackling.........it IS a good tune...... the crackling made me have to stop it on the second play though...

wow.. crazy. hmm I guess I will have to try doing a remaster, since a few people now have mentioned it..

ok, please tell me if I succeeded in fixing the clipping, which was quite a daunting task considering I could hardly hear it here in the first place. but I did quite a bit of troubleshooting.. I don't think I overnormalized it either time but I toned back a bit at a few points in the mastering. To my ears it sounds pretty on par with a lot of my favorite cd's, even more pleasing to the ears really..

B. SABBATH, you often make reference to cradle of filth I notice!
either production or the sound of the song itself.. lol
they're ok and all but there are seriously quite a few other bands I draw bigger influence from. Perhaps early on they were a vocal influence but I hardly go as high these days.

A number of bands I would say influenced this song in some way, consciously or subconsciously are:

Enslavement of Beauty
The 69 Eyes
Stormblast era Dimmu Borgir
Eternal Tears of Sorrow
Soilwork

I highly recommend all of them.

In any case, I hope at least this track doesn't have as "thin" production as others you've commented on.. then again I don't really see how this could get much thicker without being muddy, at least on my system/s.

I pretty much liked this stuff. What this reminds me of, is a band that just kicks some serious booty when playing live, and this is their 'studio' album...being much tamer, and not as racous as the live performance. An OLD example would be Deep Purples Live Album as compared to their "Machine Head". I don't know any current examples to really go by... I think this is because of the drum sound, and the processed gtrs, etc. Now...this is NOT a bad thing, but just the first impressions I got when listening.

oh...I didn't hear any clipping

I take that as a huge compliment, especially coming from you. Thanks.

Hey Mistral,

Listening now, I am hearing acouple of weird little snaps here and there. Almost like you may have had a bd cable or something. Not clips though. I think you did a great job with the song on a arrangement basis. I like the transitions and stuff. Not much personally for the growly vocals, but you sound like you are in there. The only thing I can say about the song is that the guitars are not working for me. Probably why I bought the POD. Maybe with some more work a better tone can be established. Overall, though super job. Thanks for the post. Oh yeah, how you like-in the power switch on the V-Amp?

:p

well, depending on where you hear the snaps.. the intro was done on a marshall amp (mic'd).. just fyi. haha re. the v-amp.. yeah, I wish it had a power switch. no biggie though, just got to be careful when I lend it to people. I have it hooked into a power bar. As for its tone, I really like it personally. maybe my choice of distortions/cabs just isn't down your alley. anyways thanks for the listen.

You bet. It does not sound that bad. Just kinda "direct / processed" sounding. Maybe the encoding or something. Just lacked something.
