Cakewalk has posted 10 pages of new Sonar information, but its all comparison graphs to Pro 9. There aren't alot of huge changes, but I can guarantee that the ability to click and drag on a corner of a track and pull your fade to where you want it (one of my fav protools functions), and the integrated synths, will be worth the $129 upgrade. Dual monitor support is cool, too, makes things way less cluttered. A better track view layout (more ProTools-ish also) with meters showing for each screen is also good. And, its faster, and hopefully more stable.
Faster, too, is almost enough to spend the $$ on.
All in all, if this thing is as stable or more so than Cakewalk 9, then no one has anything to gripe about. I think it'll be nice... in fact, I'm sure of it.
1st person to get their shipment needs to post an initial review of the overall feel and look!
Peace,
Paul

Will do, spectin mine pronto after the 29th.......play with it ASAP....(I hope) Oh, just remembered, sent mine to South Dakota, gettin ready to move, so it'll be there waiting for me....... waiting... waiting... waiting...

As will I...

I plan on taking some time off from work to get into this one...

[DS_Sultan] what kind of work do you do with Cakewalk? Just curious...

I bang out tunes of my own (w/ a couple sound modules) and score film shorts for one of the local indie film groups (payment? what's that...)

It's fun though! My wife refers to herself as a MIDI-Widow.

I re-record cover tunes that my wife loves to hear me play on my Martin D-28. That way I am there even when I'm not.. She likes it anyway. I also had been recording a friends tunes with him. So right now I'm going back to all my old mixes and redoing them, adding soundfonts and stuff, playing with my Roland D20 sequencer... gettin better and better... that's it right now. Can't wait fer the DXi stuff man... my stuff will get better yet.... if my head doesn't explode! Tryin to do some VO work as well....just keepin in the *mix*

Short answer, fer fun... hehehe

And I wish I could get inot the scorein stuff too, any ideas on that one?

Scoring and the D20!

Man I remember the D-series... my first experience with midi was when my father brought home a Roland D10 and "12 Tone Systems Cakewalk 2.0" ( or was is 2.5?) /That/ takes me back...very cool.

You want to get some experience scoring? Check out Random Foo Pictures. (www.randomfoo.com) it's a Boston area indie (read as no-budget) film company. Drop the webmaster some email and I'm sure they'll listen to your stuff if nothing else. They pay ZERO, but it's a lot of fun. You don't even have to "score". If you have original tunes, those are always in demand too. The only thing they offer is screen credit and a chance to get a little experience...

The films are good too! You can mention me if you want, but it might hurt more than help, as I'm behind schedule on some music for them...(wink).

They're hosting a free film festival this Saturday. Show up. It's on the site.

...

If you dig doing post stuff and anything with video, check out Nuendo. Its not yet fully up to par, but its getting better every few weeks (gotta download the updates). Its considered Steinbergs version of ProTools, only Native. Right now, I'm either going to use Sonar or Nuendo, I'll decide after a few weeks with Sonar. The Nuendo is really nice, though, and really powerful (and way more expensive), it just needs more tweaking. Cosmetics-wise, Nuendo is the best looking of them all, in my opinion. Theres about a 60% chance I'll end up using Nuendo, although the Sonar synths might sell me.
Peace.

video...need more video...

I do a lot of avi importing. But for the most part, the film I get is fairly well edited. (Can you say "Not a pro job") but I would be /very/ interested if Sonar had improved video support. I would REALLY LOVE it if Cakewalk paid whatever license MickeySoft wants to let them import WMF files. Same goes for the new quicktimes. Everything seems like it's in QT4 these days. RealVideo I could care less about.

Shipping date...

They emailed me today with an answer or 2. The shipping date is confirmed for March 29th. The new plug-ins are more processor efficient. Track count will remain about the same on most people rigs.
