hi,

i am just about to get into the whole home recording stuff, here is what i have:
-Bad computer (upgrading soon)
-Phonics 5 channel mixer
-A mix of about five or six mics

My question is this, if i buy an audio interface (with midi input), can i plug a few things into the mixer, and plug the mixer into the interface, and also have maybe a midi divice or another audio input plugged into the interface as well?

Will running the mics thru two pre amps (i assume the interface will have preamps) cause any problems? or are there any others comflicts i should watch out for?

Maybe i should skip the interface? But then i don't have a midi input.

any help would be much appreciated, thankyou.

-Joe

thanks but i already been there, i have read all of what applies to my question and have been searched through many forums before posting. i just want to know if i can run the sound through the mixer and the interface. or does the face that i have a mixer make an audio interface redundant? :D

yes . . . with what you have you can make things work.

mikes, instruments into mixer, mixer into PC.

The mixer would go into the line input of your PC (you may need to get some adapters to go from mixer output to 1/8 PC input.

However, you may not like what you hear, because general PC soundcards are often not all that good.

The interface would certainly help with this. A card (something like Julia) has audio and midi input, and would do the job ok.
