The problem is finding studs to put the hangers into, located in the right places.

A good stud finder is only about $20. They work pretty well, much better than the old ones.

The problem is finding studs to put the hangers into, located in the right places.

That is why I suggested mounting cross bars at convenient joist locations. Then wire the cloud panels anywhere you want.
