Da Axe is back with an original recorded and mixed totally on my VF160CDR. I then did like in the good ol days and mixed it down Live to my puter into n-Track. Added a touch of Compression and Peak Limiting to the Stereo Track and that's it.

It's a Southern Blues Rock Power Shuffle.

Let me know whacha think!!!

Appreciate it...

"the whole worlds going insane"

that's my favorite part of the tune right there..

I think the mix could be a little crisper and could use a bit more compression..

:D

actually, I think it's too crisp and over compressed.. I can hear the compressor doing it's thing and that can't be good.. I also think you should take it easy on the high e.q. stuff.. especially on the drums.. the very first entrance of the tune sounded a hair off.. cool song! I would remix and ease up on the compressor and high e.q.

you may want to look into some 'waves' effects.. They make great compressors and limiters that allow you to get a hot signal without any unwanted side effects..

Cool!!!!!!!!!!!

this is right up my alley of course.
You should try recording the vocals after you have done the music maybe..........
I don't know, I'm not that technical.
Good song idea though (Valley of Decision)
fits the blues rock genre very well.

Enjoyable song Axe.

Sam and Dan;

Thanks for the listens and comments. Sam, The Compressor is set at:

Threshold -12
Ratio 2.5
Attack 10
Release 100
Gain 3

Expander/Gate is set at:

Threshold -48
Ratio: 5
Attack 5
Release 400

The only thing that I EQed was to knock a lil bottom off the Bass. It was Boomy. Any Suggestions?

Dan, I did sing after I did the music. LOL

That's why I have it here. Keep em coming!

I contend that the world is already insane.

I'd kick up the bass a little too. Cool jam!

SLuiCe;

Thanks Man! Workin on all this stuff. May have to put all the tracks on n-Track and remix.

Going to retrack Sharon on the drums Monday night on the VF160.

good rocker with a message ya got there Mr. axe!

When the gtrs are sync'd together, they sound good, but when on their own, the mix energy drops and my mind is split listening to each one separately and comparing if they match together well...which at times, there seems to be some strange harmonies between the two.

Bring the vocals up, for sure.

I like the humpin, thumpin bass

I know this may be a no no...and would certainly take away from and 'live' feel that you might be wanting to achieve..

but..that would be to track the rhy gtrs...get a good bed down... then add your leads on top of that. So...potentially, I suppose you could have 4 guitars going on at once.

I say this because I think it is the 'specially' talanted ones that can pull [dropping out the rhy for the lead] this off on a studio cut. Playing live is different....the energy is there, and usually a volume boost comes with the solos too.

but...just a suggestion. This may not fit into your music goals. If not, maybe look at a "lead boost" something to elevate the leads over your comp parts so it doesn't sound like something "drops out" when you go to solo.

did that make sense? hope so...
keep rocking for the Lord, man... you're doin' good.

Da Axe is back!!!
Great to hear ya, what can I say...great blooz rockin as always from the master!!! If I wasnt saved I could say that this is something that I could hear being played at a roadhouse down here in Texas...well back when I WAS in the world this is the kinda stuff I would hear in the roadhouses...different message of course. I love ya my brother. Keep on rockin for The Rock!!!

Axe,
Good stuff as always. Gotta bring those vocals up though, especially in the beginning of the song. Keep on gettin up my brutha!

Cool song!

I actually think the vocal level is good. It could be brought up in the mix with some high end eq... I'd try a slight bump(a sharp one, not too much) around 5k and a slight bell curve bump around 10-12k, again not to much and just on the vocal if possible...

Good Job

Thanks Mr Mix!

I'm going to try several things on this after I have Sharon retrack the drums Monday. It's lookin more and more like I'm going to have to move the tracks over to n-Track or PowerTracks PA8 for more editing possiblilities.

Yep, I was going for a LIVE sound.

Appriciate your visit and advice.

Thanks for the listen and advise! What's a "Bell Curve?"

The vocal does need to come up but I think there may be a perfect combo of fx for your voice. Because you have such a unique quality to your voice I would experiment with different levels of reverb and different rooms until you hit upon what works. Maybe check out recordings of similar vocalists and see what they do. I'm thinking right now but I'm not coming up with anything. Beefheart (one of the great obscure vocalists), Greg Allman, Howlin Wolf? One thing is for sure - you need to put that voice right out front so we can hear every word you say.

That guitar soundz soo good, definately fed my monkey jus like e pose ta be!!
The comp is squeezing so tight the mix can`t breathe any dynamics. IF you let it lose it would be kickin man... Let them loose.. drums, guitars, and bass rock.. bring the vocals up with more authority in the level. Enjoyed it... :)

I second that! I'm just listening through crappy computer speakers right now, but I'm actually having LOTS of difficulty understanding the vocals. I can only pick out a few words here and there. You gotta do something about that. Otherwise, awesome tune!

Downloaded last night. Listening at work with headphones.

Enjoyed this Axe. Your vocal sounds better in here than I remember in the last song of yours listened to. Bring that baby up. Boy you don’t pull any punches in the lyrics do ya ;) :D

That bass sounds great in the phones. Guitar tones sound pretty damn good. I think you got some other advice on the guitars by some others that can hear far better than I can. :D.

I caught a little looseness in something at 1:46. Sounds like the snare. Kind of threw me a bit. I think I hear a pretty bad bass clam at 3:10.

Nice job man. I like it. Keep em coming.

Guitars are a bit loud, bit hard panned sounding and a bit dry tp my ears.

Really nice playing, when they both hits those rhythm queues it glues it all together. I thought the leads were a little naked out there on the left and the singing had a bit of a time cutting through it all, ya bring up the vox man!

It sort of needs some "glue" to really rock IMO. All the tracking sounds really good.
