Hi everyone, I recently added an Mp3 http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/classical/davidk/

This tune is called Tzigane, by Ravel. It is extremely cool, and really hard; basically, it covers every technique available to the violin, like playing on one string for two minutes, triple-stops (three notes at once-easy on guitar, hard on violin), left hand pizzicatto, you name it.

Please download it if you can, sounds much better that way.

Hope you enjoy, it is an amazing piece; very difficult and very weird, just like me:)

Beginning sounded interesting, tho I found out I streamed it in lo-fi.. I decided to download it and play it loud tomorrow when the neighbors are awake and away.

quite interesting piece. I liked the natural room around the violin.
The voilin tone seemed a bit dark though, like you used a dynamic to mic it.

once again, like every thing else youve put up, it was great. in some parts it sounds like multiple violinists. did you do any overdubs?

thanks Scriabin. No Overdubs, it is a live recording. Sounds like overdubs because the violinist is playing lots of notes at once...

Very nice David, first stuff I've heard of yours. I lo-fi'd it, 9MB+ is a killer on my modem. It was clear enough though. This is an interesting piece for sure, never listened to Ravel much. Not in tune enough with this style to comment a whole lot, I enjoyed it though!

Excellent playing, Fiddle player ain't bad either! :)

Great piece of music. I've always liked Ravel, but this is way more intense than most of the stuff by him that I've heard. That intro sounds like he's been listening to Jewish fiddle tunes.

The recording's scratchy. When the piano comes in, the sound reminds me of an old copy of Rhapsody in Blue that my parents had on 45 rpm. I like the effect - scratchy recordings of classical music work somehow. But David, you gotta get yourself some better recording equipment - nothing that $4000 and a couple of ribbon mics and two good pres wouldn't fix. :D

That pizzicato bit sounds difficult to play...

So dejected at the beginning, so exuberant after the piano comes in and cheers things up. Good work David. Thanks for introducing me to this one.

Hi Dobro,my friend, thanks for checking it out. Yeah, not your typical Ravel Tune, eh?

Yup, the sound quality sucks the big one, but yours truly had nothing to do with it. In fact, I didnt even know it was taped. It is a live concert.
I was listening to the radio, and the announcer said " Next up is a live recording by DavidK..." I literally taped it off the radio with a twenty-year old tape deck by Sharp that I bought at Walmart when I was in College!! I have thought about getting a program to clean it up, but I dont think there is a point.

Dobro, if you have a chance, I put a new Mp3 on Nowhere Radio called Duo Concertante; it was a different show, and the sound quality is a billion times better, so check it out if you have the time.
My next post will be an actual Mp3 made in my home, with Synths, lots of overdubs, all the fun stuff. Take Care, Dave

Yeah, the Stravinsky piece sings. And reminds me of Ravel. :D
Simple and beautiful is the impression I get. Isn't violin a beautiful instrument?

You and that pianist play well together - you lean into a phrase together and ease back on tempos together nicely. Does she take her cue from you, or do you work it out together as you go along?

Gee, this is a really beautiful piece of music.

BTW, I tried posting this review at Nowhere, and got this error message:

"Ooops, you missed something
The following errors have occured:

You have already reviewed this artist!"

Well, there you have it. One review per artist. Hope you liked the first (and only) review. :D

>Mark and I play with a group called the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Well I looped your Stravinsky deal all day at work today and while I can't get behind the recording (I interspersed a 2 minute MIDI tune I just finished during this 8 hour period), the piece itself and the performance were awesome.

What relation (if any) do you have to the Siberian Jazz Band? They were giving away their CDs for a donation in their Fund Drive at KLON. Pretty cool band.

Personally I wanna hear the Racemic Siberian Orchestra.

>My next post will be an actual Mp3 made in my home, with Synths, lots of overdubs, all the fun stuff. Take Care, Dave

I can't wait.

I pretty much downloaded all your stuff and I must say, you ain't too shabby on the fiddle. I listened to it on the way to work this morning instead of all the bad news on the BBC. Very nice. Can't wait to hear your new stuff.:D

Thanx, eveybody.

Dobro, the Pianist on Duo Concertante is a man, excellent player.

Doc: no relation to the Siberian Jazz Band

Track Rat: By the Way, I went to College in St. Louis!! The St. Louis Conservatory of Music, in University Heights. It's gone now,it went Bankrupt because of embezzlement:mad:

Hey, those charges were never proved and I was cleared of any wrong doing.

Yes dobro, one review per user per artist! I did this so people wouldn't use the review section as a 'message' board, like what happens on most artists pages on other sites.

Other users can write a review of one artists music, but one user can only write one review for that artist. I will soon split them up on an individual song basis as well, so each song could be properly reviewed as well.

Soon there will be an 'edit' feature so you can change the review, but that will be on the new version I'm working on.

W.

P.S. Dobro, I will try to post another Stravinsky movement just for you, my friend. I am glad you have caught on to him: He wrote crazy shit, but he has the technique to write in any style; after all, his teacher was Rimsky-Korsakov. Bartok sounds like Bartok, Beethoven sounds like Beethoven, but Stravinsky wrote in so many styles that it is almost impossible to define him.

I guarantee you the next one will be even more haunting, Dave

Cool tune.... kinda scary sounding, though.

Seems like something you'd hear in a Dracula film.
Is it possible that I may have heard this composition in some horror film? It sounds vaguely familiar.

Nice playing! ;)

Buck

Nope Buck, I dont think this music has been in a film, but it does sound like the " Gypsy" music in Frankenstein and Wolfman.
Tzigane means Gypsy.
