New Oktava's?

Anyone know what these new Oktava Mk-012 Mark II's are like? Obviously their predecessors were fantastic but did anyone get their hands on the new ones yet? Maybe they've improved the quality control on these ones...

Just checked the Oktava official site and they're not listed so I'm guessing they're smoking new.

But surely they wouldn't bump up the price by €70 if they're just improving quality control. I mean they'd have to have modified it in some way to call it a MarkII. It's definitely a different looking body and capsule anyway. €411 for the matched pair. I remember when these used to be budget mics.

That's what I was thinking, except the clip is quite different than mine. They upgraded the clip???

There are now two companies making Octava Microphones.

One is Russian, the other is Chinese. This may be a rumor, so do not hold me to it, but my sources tell me there was a falling out between the world wide distributor in the UK and the Russian factory.

Since then, the old distributor has began making Octava microphones in China using the same model numbers. Some of our distributors who also sell Octava has told us this, but until there is concrete evidence of this, do not take it as fact.... Just what I have heard.

Are these new ones the same...I have no idea.

I would hope someone from Octava will inform everyone of what has taken place.

No, that is not what I said. It seems the old "distributor" is now making these new ones in China. The Russian Octava mikes are still being manufactured along with the new ones in China, but not by Octava, and probably not with Octava's permission. Again, this is from information from my distributors who also sell Octava.

Until there is absolute confirmation, treat this as a rumor.

Sorry Alan, that's how I read it - the "same model numbers" being the MK 012-01, and that the Russians changed theirs. My bad.
So per this rumor, my understanding then is that the "MK II" would be the Chinese version.
