I would love some advice for turning a new basement into a decent recording space! I'm a beginner, having only recorded in my bedroom in the past...

I am moving into a new apartment next week, and am lucky enough to have an entire basement reserved for recording/jamming purposes (my fiancee is cool!). I've only been in the room when it's empty, but it seems to echo a TON. Because I'm only recording acoustic/electric guitar and vocals (I use a bass DI and Sonar & Reason for the rest), acoustic treatment is more important to me than insulation. There is only one other apartment in the suburban house, and it's in the 2nd floor (above ours), and neighbors' houses are far enough away (I think, anyway).

Because I'm renting, major construction projects are not an option! Does anyone have any advice with respect to 1) placement of my computer + bx8 monitors, 2) placement of mic and direction to sing in, 3) treatment to add (carpets, other stuff?)? Here are the room specs (with a floor plan below):

- It's sort of an "L" Shape, with a counter closing one part of the "L"
- Rough dimentions: If the room were a square and not an "L, it would be about 24' x 24' by 7'1/2".
- There is a support beam running accross the middle of the main space; at this point, the ceiling is only 6'1/2"
- I believe the walls are sheetrock, and the floor is cement covered with ceramic tile

Thanks for any advice you have!

Do a search on 'gobo' to find portable absorbtion/isolation walls. You will want a couple of these plus some wall-hung 703 absorbers and bass traps to make a bit of the room deader.
