Hi - been really busy with a lot of work/personal things lately. Will try and get around to posting a little more often.

Jason Jones (poeticintensity) did a whole bunch of new drums for me before it got busy which I mixed real quick. I'd appreciate any mix advice on these tunes. Here's the first of several....I kind like the jazzy style on these drums too....

Really nice work. Poetic did a great job on the drums and you mixed 'em well. Good guitar work too. Enjoyed that. Something's not quite right with the vocals and I can't pin point what I'm hearing. Maybe just a touch loud? Too dry? They are in key and are delivered great, but they don't have that smokey blues feel. They sound more like rock vocals. Know what I mean?

Nice, Gerry!
Nice drum sound and the lead guitar sounds nice and warm. Great licks too!
This was a wonderful listen.;)

Joey :)

Listening as I type... Drums sound great! They really fit the music. I like the quiet crash sound. Nice bass sound. I like that smooth tone. The guitar tone is perfect. It has that low-mid range fullness that gives it a jazzy feel, but it works well with blues. The organ synth is cool. It's subtle and it really compliments the song. Same goes for the piano. There's something wrong with the vox. It sounds like there's a harsh frequency. Maybe lack of bass? Oh well, it's not even that bad.

Great song :D

Listening again it sounds like the vocals are louder in the last part of the song. I'm no blues specialist - this is just my crack at it. :p
I've been told I sing more like Winwood than SRV...oh well! :D

Thanks Joey - it's a little lengthy at 6 minutes or so. But I enjoy playing it cause it keeps my guitar licks up in four different keys! :laughings:

Great song :D

The vocals are probably just not bluesy enough. May through a harp mic would dirty them up a bit...

I really like hearing an organ and piano on one of your tunes. Works well and took me be surprise - pleasantly.

Drums sound nice and subtle. Guitar sounds warm and full.

Vocals are odd sonically. Performance is really quite good, but they pop out a bit too much and have a certain upper mid frequency that seems over-present. I dunno. Warm them up a bit and/or push tham back a tad. Definitely channeling clapton vocally on this. Nice solo :). Bass is solid. Smooth.

Yeah, Gerry... That's the stuff. Great mixing. Loved workin' with ya.

If there are nits to be had, I'd have to say that the drums actually seemed a bit too loud in this one. We're talkin' *SUPER* nit.

Love the guitar noodlin'...

Nothing wrong with that!

I'd rather Stevie than Stevie Ray any day.
Cool to hear another tilt at the blues - you've not popped one of those up since faderbug gave you the rounds of the kitchen a couple of years ago.
The instrument on the side opposite to the chop chop piano chimes just a little bit too much for my ear or it may be that it's a bit too metronomic - needs an occasional upstroke or chug to give it some humanity.
I REALLY enjoy your noodling.
I've said it before but it bares repeating - your songs deserve real drums & PI makes that point so well with his sympathetic playing. Oh, & the lighter jazzy touch he uses on this one really supports your solo.
Bass does a nice supporting job too - nice tone for blues.
I'd love to hear you sing this one after one or two rums!
Terrific work from all concerned.

Hey, Gerry, what great song!

Amazing guitar job! tone/playin´- :)

Congrats for everyone - drums, bass, piano, synths, everything sounds great.

(vocals around -2db would be nice) (for my taste...)

Overall, the best mix I´ve heard from you here ...

I can't believe I'm gonna type this, but the snare is too loud. The rest of the kit is laid back nicely, but the snare jumps out too much. Which is a shame because this sounds like one of PI's better captured snare sounds. The rest of the mix is pretty good. Nice guitar sounds. The vox seem to be a little too dry. Put some quick delay on em to give the illusion of space without the sloppiness of using actual reverb.

Nice blues! Great tones. Great voice. Awesome blues noodling. I have not read the posts yet, so this is just a gut response :).
The snare seems hot. The vox are too up front/loud and dry- ...yelling in my ears..might be clipping...not sure. The Guitar seems a little "in the face" and sounds like it could use a little saturation warmth. Perhaps just pulling down the snare will fix it. I'd like to get a sense of being in a small, dirty, smelly bar, but I'm just not getting it. Perhaps, the right reverb room could get it there.

This was very well done overall!

:D

Edit: Reading the posts first might have directed me to an already remixed track! Oops! Or was that the remixed track? I'm confused...again!

Hey thanks for the feedback guys! I just remixed this and took the vocals and drums down -2db each. Have another listen and let me know what you think.....

Yeah, man! That's the right stuff.... Turned it way up in my headphones, and it all sounded superb.

If I had to nit, I'd say the bottom-end is a bit too fat... But man, that's a problem I'd love to have! Nice and beefy... :)

Great work. With the changes, it adds a lot more emotion to the song. Love it!

Thanks Greg and Jason....
I remix again with about 2db off the bass eq - I thought it sounded bass-y last mix but wasn't sure. I also changed the vocal compressor.- it was a different setting than the rest, so now the harshness is gone. I added a couple notches on the reverb too...
