Dammit, Jim, Shut Up!
Don't follow my example! You'll be a 51 year old homewrecker! Oh? Already are/ Welcome to the club!
This has been greatly improved since the first mix. Yeah, you could smooth out the high end on those guitars a bit and most of the other suggestions above are good ones. This one needs some more bass guitar to give the oomph to the low end vibe.
The vocals up really helps and that piezo guitar being gone is also great relief!
For what its worth: I've been listening to Echo by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers lately. Its worth it to check out some of the mixes on this CD, whether you like Petty or not. Guitars, drums, vocals and keys are all laid in and eq'd really right to my ear--especially for this kind of song. Use the timbres and the mix placements as a guide for future reference. I learned a lot just listening to it. I have a hunch you'd like some of the tunes too.
