New mix (thanks to all for help)

Don't follow my example! You'll be a 51 year old homewrecker! Oh? Already are/ Welcome to the club!

This has been greatly improved since the first mix. Yeah, you could smooth out the high end on those guitars a bit and most of the other suggestions above are good ones. This one needs some more bass guitar to give the oomph to the low end vibe.

The vocals up really helps and that piezo guitar being gone is also great relief!

For what its worth: I've been listening to Echo by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers lately. Its worth it to check out some of the mixes on this CD, whether you like Petty or not. Guitars, drums, vocals and keys are all laid in and eq'd really right to my ear--especially for this kind of song. Use the timbres and the mix placements as a guide for future reference. I learned a lot just listening to it. I have a hunch you'd like some of the tunes too.

Thank God you took out the drawn out end-vocal on the verse, that alone makes this song much, much better. Seems a bit repetitive for my taste but it's very, very catchy. It's in my head now and can't get out! Thanks a lot :)

...as I break my self-imposed rule...

Only took a day or so, but here I am breaking my own non-response rule (self-discipline ain't my strong point). :D

Clay, thanks very much. Your suggestions and comments here and in PM's are greatly appreciated.

jeap, that's very cool..."this one made me smile laugh and move around...there must be something really wrong with it." I love that observation. Thanks for the encouragement! The laughing, smiling and moving around, and rock&roll feel, are just what I was aiming for.

crawdad, 51 year-old homewrecker...lol...oh, homerec'er you mean...ok, that makes more sense. :D
Good point on the bass. I need to borrow or buy a real bass instead of using the unit's onboard sims, I think that would beef it up quite a bit.
Good monitors would help in the other areas you mentioned. I was using phones, and have since moved to Roland ma-8's. Still not that great, but a step up from phones. I'm in desperate need of better ones.
I really like Petty, from the seeming simplicity of his writing to the solid feel of his performance and mixes. I'll listen for what you've pointed out, thanks for the suggestions.

lynx, thanks very much. Dropping the drawn-out part helped tremendously, and I'd have never thought of it without the help here.
I hear the repetitiveness, too. There should be more variety in the phrasing and melody line in the verses.
The fact that the song's in your head and you can't get it out makes it all worthwhile, that's what keeps me going!

Thank you all very much. Now I should make another rule so I can break it tomorrow. :D
