Hi, everyone.
This is my very first post here
My name is Nick and I have a little home studio in the UK.
I'm a prolific writer, and fortunately I can play most instruments, so I do record a lot.
The reason I joined here is because I cannot mix, so I am looking to learn as much as I can so that one day I can mix for myself.
I'm also looking for others who love mixing may want to use my tracks to practice one.

Your work on Spotify sounds great. Hearing lots of Beatles and ELO influence there.

Yes, I record everything in my home studio apart from real drums which my fried records for me at his studio.
This forum sounds amazing and one I wish I'd known about a coupe of years ago

Good morning (in the UK at least),
As a newbie to the forum - I really don't want to commit any faux pas' in my first post so I hope someone will correct me if I've done so with this post.
I'm Joe, a recording artist based in Wales. I've only been writing and recording since 2019 and I'm doing the thing I've been most scared to do since I started - sharing my music. I've had a read around for an hour or so and I was really pleased to see how supportive the forum is and I hoped to meet other people and to get/give feedback as best I can. Rather than start a new thread to share, I figured I'd post a catch up on the past 5 years here. I really only write in concept albums, due to a major influence being progressive rock, specifically Pink Floyd (not that the music is anywhere near that standard). So, I'll share the albums without the hope or expectation that anyone will listen to them all.
"A Single Shining Star" - (June 2023)
The album is based on insignificance with the title track based on the concept that none of us are more or less significant than any other person. From a production point of view, it definitely has its challenges for the listener. However, I like the starting point it represented in my learning journey.

"Mobius Dysthmia" - (September 2023)
This album is based on a never-ending cycle of depression. The album itself is cyclical so the end is the same as the beginning, like a mobius strip. The songs all lead into the next song so it's 45 mins of unbroken music and I mixed the whole album in a single DAW project...something I definitely learned a few tricks from. I have actually lost that project as I bounced the whole album out one time and many hours later listened to it and in a fit of pique at how it sounded, I deleted the project and ended up having to master it from the bounced file. Anyway, this album is almost unmarketable as there are no singles on the album and the songs, to me at least, only make sense in the context of the album.
Mobius Dysthymia (Spotify)
"Race for the Warmth of the Sun" - (April 2024)
An album based on different types of love with the end goal being finding my now wife. It was based on a quote I had read which read "To love and be loved is to feel the warmth of the sun both sides". There are songs about old friends, lost loves, workplace spats and even finding love for my own music.

There are also a couple of singles (below) I've released and a lot of songs which are sat on my hard drive in a folder labelled "The Cutting Room Floor". In any case, thanks for allowing me to share my music and I hope I can be of help to anyone else.

Spotify can be used free with occasional adverts.
Fairly sure you still need an account, though.
It's not an unreasonable expectation in 2024 although I appreciate not everyone is going to have an account.

I'm not going to pretend I have time to do any substantial listening right now but I took a very quick tour.

Finally opened the box of a new Tascam 24. Formatted a 32 SD card. Trying to get started. Several buttoned don’t work like the assign button. I’m probably doing something wrong. Is there any good step-by-step tutorials that I can view?

My sincerest apologies for that experience - I also don't subscribe to Spotify after their royalty changes in Jan of this year. In hindsight, I could have considered sharing a link to Bandcamp.

Hi Basscleaner and welcome. At the basics there are two rooms, one for mixing and one for tracking. Most of us here have to setup our room for mixing, therefore we are trying to make it neutral so that the mix translates across many listening environments. The other part, which few of us have that privilege, is a tracking room. The tracking room usually will have kind of character, to capture when recording through a mic.
Most of the time as a default, when folks here talk about room treatment, it is almost always for mixing. Just so you don't get confused when reading and getting advice.
