Howdy; name's Kev. I just started broadcasting about 4 months ago... doing a couple of little talk shows with music peppered in. They're at a facebook page or Spreaker page called Truth On Tap (can't post URLs yet) and I broadcast on Spreaker and luckily had one of my shows picked up by iHeartRadio so it's nice to have the expensive "Station" plan for free. My show focuses on truth in a way that mainstream can't do it (too many people/sponsors to protect) so it's fun. We do comedy, paranormal, science, and my other show is called Caps on Tap about the Washington Capitals, though I may be expanding that to NHL on Tap to widen the audience. Nice to meet you; I was referred here by Chris Taylor (a.k.a. Crash from Htla radio one out of NY).

Hey Everyone,
My name is Stacy and I am such a newbie! I have always wanted to tap into and record my own music. I have quite a few songs written, and I'd love to record them. I play a little bit of guitar and a little bit of piano, simple stuff. I tried going to some of my friend's who always said "Yo, Stace if you ever wanna record hit me up." And they just never came through, so I need to take matters into my own hands. I don't know where else to go so I thought I'd hit up a forum and maybe ask for someone's help to get me started or take me under their wing? I have some recording equipment another friend let me borrow but I must be doing something horribly wrong because when I try and record the sound is sooo low and all I hear is hissing even when I try and pretend like I know what I'm doing by messing with effects.
Essentially, my goal is to record something super simple; acoustic guitar & vocals... something incredibly close to Ed Sheeran's song called "This"
I'd be so grateful if anyone could help me out

First step, I would recommend educating yourself by reading the 'Sticky threads at the top of relevant forums here.
Then you should list the gear that you already have and post links to what you have recorded, so that we can base judgment on what you are dealing with and give further recommendation. Many just place that info in their signature line to make things easy.

I'm beginning research on recording voice and piano in the numerous venues I sing in. My fiancée is a professional pianist, myself the singer. Since I travel so much I will be seeking info on keeping things lightweight and versatile.
For the past few years, have been a member of TapersSection.com. It was there I got the bug for recording, often losing the temptation for gear slutiness. My recording path for archiving my own performances has been dpa4060s (croakie mounted, jecklin or spaced AB) into either a pmd671 (Oade concert mod) or lately the Sony PCM-D50 via a battery box.
I'll be attempting to move into a more sophisticated approach for non-audience recording, but rather location recording, and need strategic advice how to expand my tech and skills. Since I often have free usage of a theater, will want to begin to record classical rep onstage (or in a good room) w/ voice and piano, or just piano. I'm intrigued by the Apogee line, taken into a ipad. Open to all information to help get quality recordings.

Welcome Andrew. I think your type of recording will be difficult for your type of music as you will want to get room ambiance. I suggest you get a few quality mics and a portastudio, like Tascam or Zoom. They allow muli-tracks so you can have some room mics and then import into your DAW and have more control over your mix. I am sure others will weigh in, but take a look at the stickies, and ask as required. Good luck and welcome.

Please allow mw an introduction - I am Chris Munson from Texas, USA. A fond member and regular contributor of Ohm Studio, I do regular collaborations with musicians from all over the world. I am a vocalist, lyricist and fledgling bassist
, using an M-Audio fast Track Pro interface, AT2020 Mic, KRK Rokit5 Monitors, and own a Fender Precision bass as well as a G&L L2000. I also have Sonar X1 software. As far as "technical capabilities", I have learned a great deal about mixing (through the online DAW and self study), but I am clueless about the hidden mysteries of Mastering (LOL).
At any rate, hope to learn a lot here, I am an electronics engineer by career so I am constantly on a learning curve, and very interested in improving my capabilities and skills.
